    Well its do able..

    "Lot of reading.

The Transfer case ecu is a separate system and does not need to be tied in or to the engine ECU. It does not need to be tied into the e-locker either.

It can be done. You need every thing listed.

    Limited front drive shaft
    limited rear drive shaft
    limited transfer case
limited transfer shift knob (AWD button)
    limited transfer case ECU

    Wiring goes as the following:

The Transfer case ecu has 26 pins (9 of them not used , 2 of them used for dash indicator)

    Pin 1 - Not used
    pin 2 - Not used
Pin 3 - Speed sensor - Not need if you engage on the fly.
Pin 4 - Switch on transfer case knob - to engage AWD
    Pin 5 - Not Used
Pin 6 - Detection switch on transfer case (center diff lock engaged)
Pin 7 - Detection switch on Transfer case ( Switch that is when shift lever is pulled back to lock Center diff)
Pin 8 - Goes to pin 6 on the actuator motor on the transfer case.
Pin 9 - Goes to pin 4 on the actuator motor on the transfer case.
Pin 10 - Goes to 4wd VSV switch on drivers inner fender.
    Pin 11 - Not used
    Pin 12 - +12 volts
Pin 13 - Goes to pin 3 on the actuator motor on the transfer case.
    Pin 14 - Not Used
    Pin 15 - Not used
Pin 16 - Goes to Cruise control ecu - Not needed
Pin 17 - +12 volts from the neutral park safety switch ( wire it with pin 12 to save a step)
Pin 18 - Detection switch on transfer case. (from H2 to H4F)
Pin 19 - goes to front axle ADD indicator switch.
Pin 20 - Goes to center diff lock light in instrument cluster. ( tells driver the center diff is locked)
Pin 21 - Goes to the 4 wheels pictograph in the instrument cluster. (Tells the driver that the 4 wheels are engaged.
Pin 22 - Goes to pin 5 on the actuator motor on the transfer case.
Pin 23 - Goes to 2wd VSV switch on drivers inner fender.
    Pin 24 - Not used
    Pin 25 - Ground
Pin 26 - Goes to pin 2 on the actuator motor on the transfer case.

Doing the swap is very feasible. "

    Interesting idea anyways.

Totally non-related to the current conversation... But how much snow did you guys get up there? Fort Collins got a few inches but it's all melted now. Was planning on going camping up near Tie Siding/ Cherokee Park area this weekend. Anyone know how bad the trails are up there/how much snow there is from yesterday?

I don't know where that is...

But depends on the elevation. Some of the mountains here got 1''-2' so..yeah. Below 6500 I'd say was just rain though. Varies all around though. Lander got some snow.

Well viscous AWD is pretty cool because you gain a lot of control in inclement weather and when putting lots of power to the ground.

I'm sure you've driven something with good AWD before, if not you're welcome to take the cruiser for a spin

you don't loose any mileage unless you use it. You still have 2wd just like normal. But in rainy conditions, even snow, slap it in AWD. Gets worse? lock the tcase in 4 high.

This is just a thought mostly assuming I end up turboing the mini taco which with 300hp would be a hell of a handful I think. So awd with that would be nice possibly..if not just plain fun.

Well the 4runner case has 2hi as well so no it doesnt and 4x4 isn't the same at all when it comes to putting power down in rain or dry, hell even snow

With self extraction capability when you get in over your head haha. I freaking love the cruiser AWD, I've never gotten wheel spin. I even tried in loose dirt in AWD LO and it just hooked and took off

Yeah it's the same idea as the grey wire mod, I control when my center diff locks and unlocks. My center diff is controlled by a button and my high and low range is a lever. All I had to do was de-pin one wire to the 4x4 computer, also makes it so I can use my other lockers whenever too

Yeah it's a pretty cool system, lots of 90s Toyota spaceship controls in the cruiser haha. I wonder if the 4runner case can do AWD LO... It's really nice for backing up trailers

no idea. I don't think so though. There was two versions, a J shift and a push button.

The Jshift I don't think you could make do that. The push button..maybe? Not sure.

Yeah I mean the whole idea was to have 300hp with awd. Especially because 4runners are so cheap. I can get a working ,4runner for 2 grand almost 2k. That's crazy. So odd how they are twice as cheap as a Tacoma.

Either way likely won't won't bother.

Still would like to turbo at some point. Be so fun

Did you weld the plate? Or is it just a tight fit between the cam tabs?

Just a tight fit between the tabs so everything can come apart. The derlin bushings make it really tough to get everything lined up as the tabs are not in line with each other for caster purposes.

wouldn't run it without an intercooler personally.

Plus its 1000 up front. And another 1000-1500 in fuel mods/tuning.

Still all things considered, its cheaper than a blower and more fun. Good for a street queen setup
