Sure does not take much accident damage to total out these trucks now. This is a concern.

no it does not. Doesn't take much for them to total anything anymore though. Much more of a headache for them.

Not all insurance companies will do that and there's a threshold as well where they tell you to change plans, usually with greater expense. Even adding items often increases it.

Might be worth asking what they determine your vehicle to be worth, cause you pretty much can't expect them to fix it anymore unless its a single replaceable panel dent or something glass. Anything else will likely tip the total threshold. It's all about paying you the least that they can, since the vehicle is old, typically just paying you what its determined to be worth as a used vehicle is the course of action. Maybe thats worth it in your case, yours is newer than mine was, I could only expect maybe 3k if it was totalled and I'd pay that in insurance fees every 2 years, so I decided if I got in a wreck I'd just eat it since I'd save it by not paying the insurance for the coverage anyway.

 

Some of that is you age too. But I totally hear everything you are saying about payout.

But for me its not as simple as it would appear. Removing the full coverage on the truck would not save me all that much. My rates are packaged because I insure two vehicles, a home and the condo. Changing the coverage on the truck to liability only will reduce the cost for the auto portion but it also raises the costs of the home and condo ins a bit at the same time. So it ends up not being as dramatic as you might think. Maybe $3-400/year. At that, it is way more reasonable to keep the coverage.

I pay just under 500 a year for all 3 tacomas for just liablity.

 

That is one of the advantages of living in a spasly populated state. I am glad for you that your costs are more reasonable, but its because you live in podunk.

 

I pay $500 a year on liability for one vehicle haha, and I have no accidents or tickets on my record, have steady record of insurance with no lapses, and tons of discounts haha
