    With a 700lb coil fully compressed vs a 650 it's applying about 400lbs more force by our rough calculation. So it is putting more stress on the bucket. We debated that as a possibility. However many others on here have done the same or similar just caught it before hand with 600-650 coils so that's not the only factor.


    Mike's started tearing at the outside bolt near as we could tell. Then continued along the front side till it blew out the backside and inside.

    Brett has reinforcement washer plates on top to help stop this as he caught it once before.

    I think topping out is the problem and would explain starting from the bolts.

    Do you have limit straps, Mike?

    I think it's fatigue more than anything. I've seen a lot fail at the outside bolt on the inside of the ring.

    And yes the bumps keep it from bottoming out. But even at compression there is still almost 400ish lbs of force more with 700lb coils vs 650. That's our point. Not that the shock was bottoming out.

    No limit straps. And I suspect the kings to be a little short even tho they are sold as extended . We also noticed that after doing the whiteline LCA bushing, the wheel acquired additional droop. Guestimate it at 1" more.

    Doesn't really matter how much travel you have, it's just the shock, and therefore the coilbucket, that's the limiting factor. Unless you have too much travel and make a balljoint or CV the limiting factor.

    FWIW, it's the same side that did this a couple years ago.

    I welded it, which didn't amount to much weld, and then added those thick plates on top.



    Also I will admit, I am running limit straps and that clearly didn't solve the issue. :anonymous: However, for the last year they've been partially torn and not doing much and got pushed to the back burner of projects.

    That looks like how his went IMO. then just imploded.

    I'm gonna see if I can find someone to make some heavy duty replacements for stock mounting location instead of a 10"

    I top out all the time and didn't notice any on mine yet. Granted they are only OMEs. I imagine it's a combination of the two. Like flexing a paper clip it eventually fails. I'm sure under compression or extensions there is some amount of deflection happening both ways. I'm wondering if the rubber isolater on mine is why I'm not having issues yet.

    Is this the problem Icons are know to have?
