Lol nah it is I guess. I know lots of people who hunted cats and said it sucked bc the dogs did the work and once they get in a tree there was nothing to it. I only hint what I eat which is elk and deer but I fish a ton and don’t eat it so I just release them. I’m always just curious peoples opinions on the sport. Don’t take it negatively bc that’s not why I asked

 

Those people probably sat in the truck until it was in tree, there’s a lot more to it than that.

 

Idk it was in north idaho where we gets lots of snow. But our cat season is pretty long.

 

Either way, people don’t appreciate the work that goes into it until they actually do it.

 

Seems every year there is someone at rabbit ears who trys. Usually a Subaru

Its like that in Grand county in Colorado. Gates close Nov. 15- June 15. Usually by that time in June most are drivable. If there is still snow on the roads they'll keep them locked until it melts out or is plowed. I get it from the stand point of messing up the roads but most don't get saturated with mud.

 

I get the road thing too, but after everything freezes unlock them till it gets balls deep or starts to get soggy in the spring.

I think it’s shitty management but what do I know.

 

Some observations...

It looks like things have changed at Wheelers Offroad. I ordered from them recently and found they are no longer in Oregon. My package is coming from NorCal. Specifically from Fresno. Some of the changes I've noticed:

They no longer allow In-Store pickup as they have in the past. Everything has to be shipped now.
They no longer charge sales tax.
They are using a new online ordering system and more shipping methods are being offered and give shipping cost options.
There are a lot of All-Pro products now being offered in the 1st gen category.
Total Chaos products are no longer available for purchase.

In the past, Wheelers offroad was owned by Wheelers Toyota in Grants Pass. That Toyota dealership appears to now be named Grants Pass Toyota It looks like this part of the business has been sold to someone else. I am not normally one to pass along unsubstantiated rumors, but I did read on another forum that Wheelers OffRoad was purchased by Trail Gear.

 

Yeah, I asked about TC stuff no longer on their site on the black Friday thread.

Then their black friday email was identical to the LROR email I got.

Very clearly bought by Trail gear.

 

I suspect its the other way around. Trail gear owns All-Pro, LROR and now Wheelers.

Further confirmation. The credit card I used to make the purchase was charged by www.trail-gear.com

 

You didn't happen to take a pic of one of those plugs did you. Be interesting to see the wear on the electrodes.

 

Usually on wasted spark one bank has wear on the electrode and the other has wear on the ground strap. Always looks strange to me. I'll have some 145k originals coming out this weekend.

 

I would suggest those are originals with that much wear on them.

The notion that our plugs need to be changed every 30K, as Toyota suggests, or even every 50K as many have suggested on TW, is ridiculous. From my own personal experience on the redhead, 90K may even be too soon. YMMV

 

How is it running? Rough at idle? Any noticeable high load/high RPM miss or skip?

 

I would agree as long as you regap them at least every 30k. If you don't you're putting a lot of wear on your secondary windings in the coils, making them work harder.

 

It has a noticable long crank compared to other engines but not that long compared to other 5vz. I don't like how this engine idles for numerous reasons so I'll hold off on making any judgments there. No skips at high RPM but timing is conservative so I'm not sure why that is yet. I have kinks to iron out from neglectful past owners. The good news is I regularly hit 18.5mpg so the engine health overall isn't that bad, just little shit.

 

Regap your plugs you lazy mofo, you leave good power/efficiency on the table and you wear your coils hard letting the gap erode far past it's intended amount.
