Just use the wire gauge and the little bendy tool it works fine, it's not rocket science.

 

Or if that's too hard you can use feeler gauges. But excuses won't regap them

Basically the only thing you can't do is use the $1 gap tool from VatoZone

I didn't want to have to like that. But with TG buying everything up we're losing diverse options. As long as Ruffstuff doesn't sell out I won't lose hope.

Corps never develop new markets anymore. It is all about acquiring other businesses.

Combine that with the power of the overlanding phenomenon.

 

We will see. Wheelers was a friendly name but they didn't sell anything I couldn't find myself. Ruffstuff has things that are custom made and they make things I'd rather not have to construct myself, hopefully they don't eat that up.

 

The real problem with acquisitions is the reduction in diversity.

 

Well, some not-so-good-news for the 4Runner. Was parked on the street outside of school where @mrs.turbodb was tutoring, and a 17-year old new driver hit it in the rear quarter panel.

Appears that only the rear quarter panel and rear bumper are damaged, but with older parts harder to come by, there's probably a reasonable chance that it's totaled.

It might be totalled but that's not a terribly hard fix for a body shop.

 

Well that sucks!

Yah, will have to see come the work week and a few more estimates. Obviously, replacing the quarter panel is the costly part. Will see if I can find a place that will repair instead of replace.

 

I'm sorry to hear that. Looks like the 4Runner fared better than the Tahoe.

Solid axle swap it!








Today I installed the new column I got from Brett. I have tilt steering now! And varispeed wipers! Such luxuries.

Then installed some Honda wind shield sprayers and dropped the tank to replace the pump from when my switch got stuck on. Had no idea how bad it was..




Sadly though. The pump I got is bad I guess. The wires were also backwards which maybe is a year difference since I got it used. But doesn't seem to work. Voltage is going to it but pump action. Super bummed. I haven't had sprayers in about a year haha

 

This sucks Buddy. But definitely looks like its worth keeping. Drives ok right? Was the left rear tire/axle impacted? Does the rear hatch open normally? All the glass ok?

Zane - not terribly hard to fix - do you mean by reforming the existing panel, or cutting out and replacing? As far as I can tell, the rear quarterpanel is no longer available for purchase. First estimate was $7900. Clearly too high - and I can see they are charging too much for (and ordering too many) parts, but it's cutting out the rear quarterpanel and replacing it where the bulk of the cost is (if they can even source the part).

 

I mean find a sketchy body shop on highway 99 and have them pound out what they can and Bondo the rest. It's an old SUV that's the best you're going to do without spending more than it's worth. My dad used to work for some used car dealerships up there I'll see if he knows a place. He's got friends with little used lots that do this all the time. It'll look good and it'll be cheaper for sure, but it won't be perfect.

Other option is to cut your own patch panel out of a junkyard and learn some bodywork

 

haha that has a very steep learning curve. Be fun to watch him tackle that without a real garage. DO IT!!!

 

That's true the space would probably be the biggest issue for him. He's got that meticulous mentality he probably be good at body work. I fucking hate it, but even still my impatient asked and sometimes do it halfway decent too

 

There is an art to it for sure. Plus welding up body panels sucks.

Plus painting and blending it right.

Honestly. Id just rock it. who cares? Its old and used as a camp rig. Slap a 4xinnovations rear bumper on it and be done with it.
