    Ah hmm. Well....could also be the water pump..or the tensioner bearing..or any of that. I know you just replaced it.

    So far only a couple of oddities. A high idle is one. Not sure why yet. No codes, but the SG says NOT READY still. We'll see if there are any pending once I drive it a bit. I'm going to take a look at the fuel trims today to see if there are any indicators.

    Alignment is scheduled for tomorrow.

    Headers and only one cat is...interesting. It is quite a bit louder, especially under load at certain RPMs. And my butt dyno says it is a little peppier. :burnrubber:

    Looks like I found the cause of my high idle. I did enough driving today to get through the ECUs test cycles. When it did, the check engine light came on. The SG says it P0505 code which is Idle Air Control malfunction.

    I am wondering if any of you guys has had to deal with this issue on your rigs?

    Also, got an alignment today. The spec sheet below shows that the toe was out but everything else was remarkably close considering all the things that were done to repair the truck. Nice work guys.

    Super awesome to hear it's back on the road. Perfect Xmas present ehh?

    Since we had a lot of hoses off, I'd start by looking for a vacuum leak. Seems like the most likely culprit to me. Smoke test is reasonably easy to do (I've got a homemade tester I used when looking for my P0171 cause, if you want to use it) or you can do the old "spray starting fluid in the engine bay" that Zane suggested for me :). After that, I'd clean the throttle body, since it could have gotten gunk in it; then start looking at the IAC valve.

    Wow, that's really great considering all the work.

    Tell me more about this 'spray starting fluid' technique. Presumably, any fluid that makes its way to the combustion chamber via a leaking vacuum line will cause an increase in RPMs. Is that it?

    Reading about the P0505 code indicates that this is typically a stalling or low RPM issue. Well mine seems to be the opposite, my idle is about 2x normal. About 1500 RPMs.

    Yes, that's exactly it. Basically, you're looking for that RPM bump as the air gets sucked in.

    Most of the places I've read say that it can either be a lower or higher RPM; essentially it's "equivalent to" a problem with the IAC, which can be allowing too much or too little air. My reading seems to suggest that even a dirty throttle body (stuck slightly open) could cause the issue.

    Also, since cleaning the TB is so easy (and could be the issue), might be a good place to start since it doesn't require the smoker. :)

    I guess also - check to make sure that none of the throttle cables are too tight, holding it open slightly. I suppose we could have easily over-tightened some of them when reinstalling the engine.

    Also, at idle, my TPS readout is 9. This seems high. Do you know what normal is? Should it be zero at idle (no throttle pressure).

    I was also watching the fuel trims. The long terms are zero (0) while the short terms are fluctuating a bit with a swing from -4-5 to a +3-4. This seems normal but wasn't sure. When it goes negative, is that rich or lean? I was under the impression that a vacuum leak would cause high FT numbers.

    Don't know about the TPS readout. Have never looked at mine (not sure if it's even available for me).

    LTFT is obviously normal and good at 0 :). STFT is within spec too, so I agree that lessens the likelihood of a vacuum leak. Sounds like another good reason to look at cleaning the TB and checking the throttle cables.
