    The lower mount gets moved outboard though, so it decreases the leverage ratio. Don't know specifics, but that was my understanding.

    This is true until you max out the length of the shock, which unfortunately icons with 13" coils are almost doing when new. But yes. That's one thing I'd do different if I got icons again. 14" spring for sure

    Yeah, just buy a 14" 650# coil for a 2.5 coilover. Eibach has em, oe king ones work too.

    Looks fine.

    I'd do it. Be intense for sure, but still fit.

    I still have a problem with this argument. It's one of those "on paper vs reality" things for me. I have NEVER experienced where if I change the preload the ride doesn't change. Ever. If you add preload, it gets stiffer, if you take it away, it gets softer.

    In fact, I challenge you to crank yours up a few turns drive around, then take them all the way down. It'll be totally different.

    I don't have a reason for this and i know its supposed to be linear, but it doesn't ride that way.



    But yeah x2 get some 14'' coils. Should be like 70 bucks each I think from Eibach.

    Right but see if adding preload increases shaft speed on decompression then it is making it ride better or worse. That's literally an admission that preload effects how it rides. It's still caused by the coil due to it over powering your valving.

    And for me I'm talking about the difference of like 2-3 threads and it's a large difference in ride quality not "too much preload".

    Mine are D range now, they’ve been great after I got them broken in. They spread out really well at 5-10 psi and are pretty comfortable.

    Agreed on the front diff, it’s the one thing holding me back from 37’s I think. Seems like it wouldn’t be terribly difficult to get a 2nd gen front diff in there by making new mounting brackets, and assuming the pin out for the ADD actuator is somewhat similar really all you need is custom CV’s.

    When I measured my dad's the mounts are actually almost identical.

    It's the width that is different, obviously. I know Brian and front range off-road custom made like an adapter for the add tube or something for his 3rd gen 4runner. Had said he was going to release that product but never did sadly..

    Was like 1.5" wider per side basically. So probably just need to figure out the add tube and you'd be good. Not sure how cvs would work since he was running a +2.5" lt kit so was custom CVS anyways.

    But yeah I'd go to 37s if we had a better front diff too.

    I have read it.

    Shaft speed is what they are talking about when they say "more preload will force the shock to top out faster". As in the shocks valving gets overpowered by the spring. This means the shaft speed is too fast for the valving..make sense?

    I think what they’re saying is that the shock will top out faster because the higher preload puts the ride height closer to the max extended length of the shock, therefore there is a shorter distance to travel (droop) until the shock is maxed out.

    With a linear rate spring, force applied (in either direction) will be identical regardless of preload level. I do agree that there’s a little more to it as far as perceived ride harshness, I think mainly because additional preload changes your control arm angles and that can definitely be felt on big hits.

    I see both of you're perspectives but I also see the discussion taking place in a coil spring vacuum. In reality, there is a shock absorber playing a role in how soft or harsh the ride is.

    If you think about it, when you add or remove preload, you are also changing where the shock's internal piston and valve shims are in the shock body. Something I an trying to understand more, the bump zone.
