    nah just bushings.

Although I will do a rack slider once I do Solo spindles and have heimed steering. Will help relieve the rack from some abuse.

The gussets are an interesting thing to me, from what I can tell the TC coil bucket gussets don't address a real problem, just suggest a problem could exist. I know the buckets flex inward toward the engine under compression and the top hat bolting area takes a beating, I think that's what needs to be addressed. I'm going to pull the engine to get at all that on mine. For $100 I'll do the TC gussets too but I don't believe they're really doing a whole lot to address any issue we've ever had.

    True.

I have some DD coil tower gussets and secondary hoop mounts for the top to handle the bowing in, will just need to bend a crossover tube for it. But I don't think the TC gusset hurt. Solo makes some too.

I'd love to pull my engine and do the center crossmember and do DMZ motor mounts or NWI or whatever. Plus put my Bozen mounts in(which are in frank ha) but probably won't do that until I have my own place and do the 5spd swap at the same time.

I'd like to join the coil buckets with a bar or hoop, but I likely won't take that on until I have the turbo worked out, cause no doubt they'll interfere. Instead I'm going to make some back braces that come up from the frame rail to the back of the bucket, from bottom of frame rail to top of bucket. Three per side I'm thinking. And as per Ben's idea, a top hat pattern that bends and comes down the sides of the bucket, think of it like stacking a bucket on the bucket, for strength. Lastly I'm looking at bending some metal rod to fit the rolled edge of the bucket tops.

yeah no chance I think of a turbo and cross bar fitting. Be no room with the exhaust manifold, down pipe, wastegate and wastegate tube and intercooler piping all on that side. Well unless you chop out the inner fenders I guess then maybe haha

Not sure you'll have room with the tube idea. But interesting.

The "top hat" bend over is something I'd wanted to try too. Probably just weld some triangle though as the DD coil bucket top hat should work quite well. Plus technically it'll be tied to the frame with the secondary shock hoop too..

Either way...none of this is happening in the order in which I'd like it to. Really did want to do an almost stripped down build with Frank..but..oh well.

Yeah, I'm hoping to actually knock all this prep work out before the LT stuff takes place. It's work I can do right now. I need to take some measurements for those back braces, I think that and the top hat sleeve is going to be the most important part of having an LT build that isn't just asking for trouble. I'm pretty dead set on doing the turbo, I think it's the icing on the cake. Without it, well cake is still great, but with it, well now you have something. If it means I have trouble doing a top bar over the engine then so be it, I'll just have to get that other bracing right to begin with. Any suggestions on other things to tackle while I have the engine out. It's a pretty easy pull on the manual trucks.

Either gusset the engine perches or replace them with beefier ones of course. I'd beef up the center cross member while the motor is out too. Just plate it up over seams. Seen those split enough.

Id love to beef up the LCA Cam mounts too, I think JD did a sweet job of that on his truck. But he doesn't have a front diff so bit different.

Turbo would be fun, but honestly for what it is with the low gearing the blower was plenty fun on frank. Plus I hadn't fully untapped that yet. Im still also not 100% convinced a turbo setup on a LT truck is wise. Seems like a great way to destroy manifold with all the weight of the turbo bouncing around. But will be jealous of it no doubt. Still for reliability, can't beat the ole blower and with 8psi or more out of it with the 5.29s it is a royal hoot to drive still.

    Sure.

It's actually quite simple, all it is is a piece of tube that is attached from one ITE to the the other. Then a larger tube is on the outside with bushings to allow the inner tube which is attached to the ITE to slide around. From there you tie the outer tube to the truck someplace, the crossmember or I was thinking the old sway bar mounts.

This basically gives another bushing point for the rack overall and also gives it more resistance for turning so hits direct more energy elsewhere.

this is the best photo I've ever seen showing it:

    https://www.instagram.com/p/B89UBtcBbY7/?utm_source=ig_embed

Not super popular due to you basically need 3/4'' heim ITEs...

Though Im sure you could make something like a washer that sits between the OEM ITR and the rack possibly.

I won't ever bother with an undersized supercharger again (heck the thing was small for the 3RZ... no idea why they decided it would be okay for the 5VZ), learned my lesson, and having zero provision for boost cooling makes it even more unwise, the thing is basically just a huge hairdryer that makes fun sounds. It's still cool, don't get me wrong, but it doesnt hit a bang for the buck in my book. With the turbo I'm going to use the cast manifolds and do a J pipe off the collector flange to come back forward. That way I can keep it all close to the block and tie it down to the stud bosses off the head with support rods. I have the turbo sitting in the garage already, pretty little T3 with a .58AR, water and oil center section. It's a small turbo but will spool like the dickens and will easily outrun the blowers capability while still being almost instant in reaction with the 5.29 gears. The 5VZ is weak sauce in terms of bottom end and head strength so I'm not looking to boost its tits off, I just want to show that for cheap you can easily beat the SC, lets say 13psi since that's just barely beyond the reach of the SC in heavily modified form. Plus I can cool my air charge and tune which alone is enough to beat the SC with less boost since I can run non gimped timing.

I think you should get a T4 dude. T3 is gonna choke on the 3.4l.

I already have the blower for one...and for another it was pretty cheap haha For me with the 5.29s I didn't need much more to feel happy. I'll concentrate more on making the truck a bit lighter to make the most of it. It was plenty fun and since it will be the remote adventure rig, im not chancing it with a turbo system.

now the single cab...different story haha I have most the stuff to turbo that truck. So I will be jealous but not THAT jealous haha

It's only chancing it if you're not confident in your work :luvya:

A small turbo like this hardly adds any complication. Plus it's a water-cooled center section so it's less likely to fail due to heat. And if it pukes its guts they all end up in the intercooler.

If it were to fail you can loop the oil lines and run the intake to open air. I see no real danger. I wouldn't do it if I thought it was going to leave me stranded. Judging by what I've seen from our group I'd be much more concerned about how you set up your suspension.

Two dangers...oil lines going places...water lines going places.

But do it and do it well. So then I'll do it haha

I'm doing the water lines as hard lines with only a 2 inch flex section. My oil lines will be mostly Hardline for the feed and just a basic soft line drain. like I said I wouldn't do it if I thought it was going to leave me stranded. That's the whole reason it's taken me this long to get to long travel. I see people do it but it fails so often, had to figure out a way in my brain to get there without it being a liability.

Remind me when I'm in front of my computer to send you a link. It's got one of the best long travel failure stories I think that's ever been written. And it's a totally relatable and easily possible failure mode

It was fun in the second portion to get away from all that slop and to find a little sun too.

    Rainy huh? Bummer.

Was hot AF here on Saturday. Went for a 5-6 mile walk in the woods. Was nice. Ate a lot of food too this weekend and spent too much money on food for that matter...

Caught another killer sunset at the possible lot again because fuck it haha

Today was perfect out. But mostly cleaned up the house. Then went to work the horse. Mowed the lawn and finally put my second coat on the couch ter top. Had been a while since I'd reoiled it and it needed it. Smooth as silk now.
