I would bet something happened to the sidewall more than just a blowout. What exactly....no clue.

Now I just have to decide on what to do. Hadn't planned on doing that for another few months. Stick with the 285/55/r16, go to 255/85/r16 or other sizes. Then sticking with the maxx or trying out say the pro. Or go to a different brand in a c range

Wow t have much options in 255/85. Think you'll have two choices and that's in pretty much for a 16" wheel.

    Much more choices in 285s.

I'm going through the same thing but luckily have 17s and have a lot more choices. 16s are dead haha

Luckily the 255/85 options are tires I like so at least there is that. 17s do seem to have more options these day but still depends on the tire...least for e load vs c load.

Still easier than finding tires for stock rim fj40 and my mr2 lol

Yeah I have the 255s and they do good.

There are more and more c load options appearing in 17s which is nice. I found several. But might just go with a D.

It's not that bad, really. Make sure to do the receiver/drier at the same time.

Could be. Not sure about buying an aftermarket clutch though, and an OEM clutch costs only a little less than a brand new Denso compressor with clutch, so I'd just replace the unit.

Plus, I've heard (no experience) that (dis)assembly of the clutch/compressor is a pain, and I'm not sure it's something you can do "in place" - so you'd have to take the compressor out anyway (and discharge / recharge the system). Essentially, you'd be doing all the same work, plus some, to replace only the clutch.

Shimming a new clutch is more labor than just replacing a whole compressor unit, that's the real issue. Its a waste of time and money, not just one or the other.

I honestly don't think it's too difficult to replace just the clutch and bearing. On the 3rz it just needs to be unbolted and then you're able to move it around enough to get the snap ring out. I doubt the compressor itself actually ingested water.

Without the compressor good luck trying to keep your windshield defrosted.

I don't think it's easy enough to get to though sadly on a 5vz to do that. You'd have to pull the whole unit.

Really becomes more of a "while I'm there" kind of problem.

Probably don't have to replace the compressor...but since you're pulling it...

Guess it also depends on how long you want to keep the truck Ben :stirthepot:

I completely disassembled my pump and measured the vanes and everything was perfect. No water intrusion on it. 260k I assume on it.

    Howdy, y'all!
I'm moving to Worland (from Las Vegas, NV) next month for a new gig. I will be one of the flight paramedics up there.

It seems like a pretty cool place. The job is super sweet.

I just need to find a place to live. The housing market seems good, but I'd like to rent something with a garage for a year before I commit to buying anything.

Hopefully the rental market is better than when we looked. There was hardly anything to begin with then add that we needed pet friendly and wanted a garage and there was nothing lol. We were about to buy a cheaper ish place to live in while we waited to find a more permanent place (and then just rent the first place) but luckily found the house we did to buy

There was one with a garage and it didn’t allow pets. There are a few apartments. But I need a garage to keep the snow off the truck. I will be responding to the airport from home and I don’t want to knock snow off the truck before I leave. I am likely gonna buy a cheaper smaller house with a garage and hope I can sell it when the time comes to find a nicer place.

I don't think worland gets that much snow. But maybe wrong. Frost will be a bigger issue I suppose

    @Blackdawg and @anyoneelsewhomighthaveadamnclue

Is there any reason a fiberglass fender set that says 03-04 Tacoma wouldn't fit early 1st Gen like mine?

I think you'd have to drill holes to mount it. Other than that, I can't see a reason why not.

Edit: NVM. I was thinking flare not fender.

What strikes me as odd is it says specifically for 03-04, as if that any different from the 01-02. Every other fiberglass maker just lumps 95-04 into one fender set. I thought the only difference that might occur for me would be the side marker attachment.
