    I think I sat in one once. Did we see one on the lot that day? I recall the manual shifter and the seating position being kinda weird in the one I sat it.

    It was fun. Tiring. But had some carnage. Not really trail damage. Found my engine mount was broken.

    No biggie.

    But this morning a leaf center pin had sheared which made getting home a problem. Made it to red lodge. Leaving Igor at the park to go home and come back with parts.


    Morrison was in rough shape. Switch backs had changed a lot. But the trail on top was totally different way rougher in spots and just a bit of a slog.

    Sawtooth was great though.

    The head sheared off in the leaf perch.

    We took loaf off the wheel and axle but couldn't fully because the leaf spring would fully fall apart. Then used a ratchet strap to oil the axle back forward an inch or so. Then torqued the u bolts down.

    So the u bolts are the only thing holding it in place and together.

    Worked tk get me out of sawtooth and to red lodge. But when I went to do it again the u bolts had stripped out. So fucked. Need new I bolt to limp it home tomorrow and then I'll get new center pins u bolts and some other shit.

    Not sure how other than the u bolts were maybe loose to begin with is the only thing Brett and I could think of

    But you're probably right on the switch backs. They had changed a lot and a few pretty tricky spots. I got stuck pretty badly on one. But we got it out.

    Not the nut. The head. The nut is still there and the full pin is in the leafs still. The head sheared off that's used to center the leafs on the axle. On the bottom of the leaf pack.

    My Mt route will be further west than it by a few hours.

    That and I'm not really sure I want to do it again this year haha not without a locker. Brett and I both left that and felt that it is now a rear locker required trail at least.

    So maybe another time.

    Was memorable though. Ever time is on that trail.

    A locker is not ideal there as the rear can walk sideways towards the edge. :anonymous:

    Well that's why you only turn it on when you need to break over the ledge.

    The ground there is now super super soft on some of the corners. Either dirt or rocks that provide no traction.

    I needed a strap twice.

    Locker is needed.

    And back home finally.

    Had to go to billings to get some damn U bolts. Sheesh.



    I have a new theory and why it happened. The U bolts I had on there were only 1/2''. Whoops..so i think they bent a bit in CO this fall as my wheel has been cocked a bit since then. Today after move the axle forward to where I think is "center", my wheel is now straight. So just slowly got looser and looser and bam. Broke the pin and here we are.

    9/16s U bolt on is now and didn't move at all when torqued to 80ft lbs.

    Will fix the center pin later, once this 105+ degree heat wave goes a way. Plus I have a lot of free lance mix gigs this week..




    Also. Another interesting thing that happened on Morrison to both Brett and I was tempatures. Our engines got HOT. So did the tranny. We basically did the switch backs at 220-230 water temp and I hit 240 once on the tranny.

    Was a hot ass day. @Digiratus I think you're the only one I've been with that would have been monitoring that stuff, do you remember that happening to you at all?

    I don't recall the coolant temps being an issue on Morrison. And in all of our adventures, I have never seen my coolant temps higher than 211° on the scangauge.

    The temps that could get very high in that scenario is the trans fluid. And if you are running it through your radiator, it could raise the coolant temps. 240° is very high. High enough to damage the fluid if sustained for any length of time. I'd consider doing a drain and fill. That'll swap out 4-5 quarts. Are you running an external cooler?

    we both were. He couldn't monitor his tranny temp though like I could.

    It was hot. didn't seem to matter if we took a break either. wouldn't dip much so we figured it was just so hot on the trail and we were barely moving so not enough air flow. Even when we got on top and stopped to eat something and let them cool down they barely did. Not until we started moving and got into the trees did it finally get below 210.

    After that I never saw it go about 180 again.

    There are some kits out there to add a pusher fan to your external cooler. You'd wire it so you turn it on when you need it.

    It sounds like Morrison has become way more adventure that I am interested in taking on. I've always been hesitant after the first time. Now this all verifies it for me.
