Yeah couldn't do much. Couldn't really run the heater cause the poor dog was hot AF too. I did for a bit at one corner that I got out to help Brett get up. But Ollie was out of the truck then after that he didn't want to get out. It was just too hot in the sun.

We both sat at 220-230 for most of the switchbacks and beyond a bit. Not much to be done about it but push on. Thankfully all was well.

Did make me miss the manual but at the same time, it was steep in spots and the auto was a blessing.

Yeah Idk if that would fit behind the grill not with out trimming. Not sure I would anyways. That's never happened anywhere else i've been.

But fair enough haha I think I'd do it again. But not without a locker.

 

yeah he gets to ride in the cab. Also 10 years old going on 11. He does great but gets really hot. This year is odd I swear his winter coat didn't really come all the way out.

 

I remember you had to tighten your u bolts when we were at Crystal Mill in CO, I wonder if they were starting to walk around then. With 9/16” you should be able to take those up to 100 ft-lbs, especially with tall nuts.

FWIW, 220-230 trans temp is not uncommon for me, especially going slow up steep grades. I’ve never had an issue with it, I just drain and fill once a year or so. You’d have to run at 240+ for a long time to start creating varnish deposits.

 

yeah it only hit 240 once. Stayed around 230 most the time once it got up there.

Yeah exactly! They were basically new right before the trip. And I kept tightening them on this last one. Glad to have the bigger bolts now.

Yeah the fluid is pretty new as of last year so Im not too worried. I'll do a drain and fill this winter.

 

How long until Monte's wheeling the red truck at this rate?


Also, where did he mention the fat ass 2nd gen on 265s cruised up the switchbacks with zero issue? I'd still say you should have one locker for that trail, and it is probably rougher than it was, but it's still not overly difficult from a technical wheeling perspective, just high consequence.

 

So where's the rest of the pics?

And I do miss sawtooth lake. Would definitely like to revisit that place.

And true you had no issues. Need the locker more times than I thought. few real tight squeezes but did the job just fine!

Is nuts I cruised up it though with no lockers two times before. I woudn't go back without one that's for sure.

Well other than getting hot as fuck and then not cooling down as fast as mine it performed great. Probably some big ass dents in the skid, definitely a low handing truck and heard it get smacked around a few times

 

Well, back from Idaho on an abbreviated trip. Just too damn smokey in the Sawtooths, and forecast is for more smoke and thunderstorms. I don't need to get asthma and a bolt of lightning to the face hiking up a 12K foot peak, so will conquer the rest on another trip.

Ben - I also need to do Boulder Basin again, with you. I skipped the very, very, top (past the lake) so I could let you show it to me. That's quite the trail, esp. the section that is steep, loose rock, with ledges and the creek running down. Loved it. Can't wait for the top. @m3bassman

Sawtooths through smoke near ID-75.

I'm so sick of smoke.

I couldn't see the sawtooths when I went last year, so was hoping I could see them this year, but it's not looking good.

Currently in Cody and went for a bike ride this morning, and it was almost unbearable. Probably not ideal to be breathing that hard with this much smoke, but oh well.

 

Yeah this is by far the worst smokey summer I've ever experienced. Its really discouraging to go out and do stuff. I don't think we have seen blue sky for days now down here.

 

It cannot decide what it wants to do here. I've got red sun in the morning, clear blue sky in the mid day, rain and clouds and smoke again in the evening. Wind changing so much the smoke is unpredictable. Was super doom/gloom and smoke yesterday and fairly clear today

 

Yeah thats what it usually does here. But for the last 3 weeks its just been socked in smoke.

 

I was wondering what LR stood for...

Is this an addon or a replacement?

what the mpgs on it? The tent will surely impact that a tad. But im sure it cruises nice. be a good tour of the national parks rig.
