@Blackdawg Monte, what's up with your fire? Looks like it's grown quite a bit.

 

8,000ish acres is the final count. It's died down a lot(mainly a grass fire) so all is well for now. i got to go to work today at least.

 

Are the fires this bad every year?

 

mmm..yes and no.

10+ years ago? no.

The last 5 years?

Yes.

It is likely to be the new normal given the climate shifts and how forests were not well managed(still aren't really).

 

I didn’t realize the smoke was THIS BAD up here. Denver is adding an hour to people’s departures and still making them fly this fucked up pattern when flying into Denver and centennial. It’s been adding a bit of time to our transports even.

 

This summer has definitely been worse than last summer. Both lasting longer and just how much smoke there has been. We could see the Big Horns all of last summer (though hazy....lot like today) and today's level of smoke was about as bad as it got.

 

Yeah there was a fire in outside of Cody in 2016 I think and they grounded flights because of the smoke. It affects the planes ability to fly somehow.

But yeah it varies a bit year to year. Some years will be chill like last year. Others almost nothing 2019. Then it'll be horrid, this year and 2017 come to mind. It's gotten worse though. I grew up not really ever noticing anything ever really. Just gotten worse with time.

Yeah this year is bad. 2017 was just as bad at least up here. 1.2 million acres burned in MT though that summer. I think it'll only get more and more frequent. Its all over too not just even here in the West US but other places in the world are experiencing the same thing. Siberia and Algeria have some massive fires right now. And of course Australia last year had that HUGE fire.

 

Well, I tried Monte. I think Toroweep was still better.

Yep, Black Canyon. Hit it on our way back from NMBDR, just after the Alpine Loop. Never even knew it existed before @mrs.turbodb found some BLM just outside of it as a place we could camp before the long drive home, hahaha.

 

Yeah he's even giving me a run for my money. I went through 4 in 2020 and I'm on my second in 2021

 

nice. I had that as a stop on both of our trips to CO if we had time. Of course we never did..but yeah haha

Grant climbs in there or did a bunch at one point. He's the one that told me to go check it out.

 

Shame about the Toyota, that would have been the real find.

Friend has this shop and another on 40 acres. I get a bays worth of space and some outside space in return for helping keep his fleet happy.
