I guess I shoudl be more clear.

The speedo is off. But i have to be running much higher rpms it seems to go the true speed. Does that make sense? Like almost 3k for 70mph true speed. Speedo reads like 79. Which is "accurate" for a true speed of 80 as Ben showed his at 3k reading 80 while drivng 80 with 32s.

mine is 3k, reading 80mph, going 70mph. The speedo being off is one thing, but the increased rpms? Seems off, or a smaller gear ratio.

 

I think I see what you mean but I can't think of any reason why that might be besides a bad cluster or speedo gear/cable

 

Rpms are electonic though so can't be the cable. That and it's brand new so would hope it's okay.

Bad cluster, maybe? As in the tach is off? possible. Doesn't seem super likely to me, i mean im sure it's not super accurate. But should be getting it's info from the CPS Yes?

 

Yeah, the tach signal produced by the ignitor (taken from cam and crank position) is what the cluster uses. Should be accurate but I've noticed my stock cluster in the LC reads 200-300rpm high compared to the digital readout from the ECU. That's a small discrepancy but I'd imagine some are worse and some are better.

 

Did you count the number of teeth on your speedo gear? Maybe it was modified in the past and returned to stock.

Also if someone open r the dash to replace the cluster bulbs they may have removed the needles and that could add significant error if they didn't put them back right.

I can live with the speedo being off honestly. Hell I've been driving it with no speedo since I bought it so like 3 years. But the rpms and true speed thing is whats bugging me..

 

How do your RPMs compare between the dash gauge and the RPMs displayed by the scangauge?

 

Wrong truck. No scan gauge in the little truck

Yeah that's the right call the scan gauge is outdated and overpriced garbage that has mislabeled codes and super slow refresh time anyway.

 

Does it have an R150f in it? Or were the really early models a W56?

 

Mine's an r150 so I don't see why his would still be a w56

No I'm not. Which I why I was doing that in the first place. But got dark and cold so will have to wait until later.

Right now I think it does have 4.30. but I want proof of that.
