So browsing crutchfield for a new double din, touch, android auto head unit and with the chip shortage, they have nothing! A bunch of cheap brands sure but the cheapest pioneer I found was an eye watering $1200... Ouch. Maybe just end up with a cheaper unit out of availability :(

Sony is the way to go and I've been seeing them in stock and around $300 locally

I'll have to go back and look at that. I like crutchfield because customer service is great and the plug and play kits have never failed to make install a breeze.

As far as car audio stuff goes unless you're spending a few grand on the head unit they all sound like shit. None of the double DIN units with screens sound like anything special they're just designed to look flashy for people that have to have the newest tech in an old car. But the best sounding car head unit that fits in a normal single din is made by Sony :p

You do know my line of work ya? I've been in hell for a year. This is the worst I've experienced it in the consumer side.

    I'm partial to Kenwood. :D

I've had a new single din on order for the first gen for a couple months. Add that to the list of things I'm waiting for...

I'll throw a bone to Monte. I had a Kenwood, liked my Kenwood before. But Monte convinced me on pioneer and it was better :oops:

I’ve also been looking at Double DIN’s lately to install in my Powerstroke and have come across the Pioneer DMH-W4660NEX which is Apple Car Play and Android Auto. Impressive unit with my research so far. I trained a new guy at work last week who had done car audio for 13 years prior and he was saying the NEX line of pioneer units are the best bang for the buck supposedly. Still a bit pricey at $750 but like you are having trouble with. They are out stock on Crutchfield as that’s who I usually use as well. But just something to check out for ya.

That's the $1200 one I was referencing. I am concerned about the 9inch aspect as that is larger than the double din space I believe. I'm not confident I have the skills to make that look good installed.

Probably lean towards the Jensen JHD1630B for now. Single din, but should get us the XM we want.

I may just get a cheaper XM capable single din to get by but I certainly cannot live with just a fm radio and cassette player for long. Gonna listen to a whole bunch of nothing dragging our new truck 8hours home. :ballchain:

I'm not sure, it takes me maybe 5mins to make them myself. It's matching colors/names and crimping, not rocket surgery
