Honestly, I’m slightly jealous. I’ve considered giving in to one of those purely for the convenience of traveling with a family. You’ll have to let us know how it compares in capability to your normal trips in your Tacoma.

Yeah was wondering if that was going to be your choice.

Seeing how your style in camping has changed this should do fine.

No more elephant hill with that thing though haha

    Is it gas or diesel?

What did you do with the rtt? Just sell it for the cash? Seems could have left it on the truck if you wanted to go somewhere that thing can't.

It's bone stock motor and that's important for reliability for me. Thanks for the support! So far I think I need to get new wheels and tires in the near term.

Elephant hill can happen but it's an event that ends with less paint in the bumpers. But, for the majority of what we do it should fit the bill.

Rtt is in the garage. Plan to sell it. No real justification for both an SMB and a built a taco. So we will try this for a bit and if it isn't what we thought we will sell it and buy a new rtt to get back to our roots. Otherwise, no point keeping the rtt.

Yea stock is mostly fine. Id look into running a php hydra with tunes provided by PHP for free using a good tow/economy tune to give a bit more pep. Definitely look into a secondary or 6.0L main transmission cooler to keep that 4r100 cool. Especially under slow speed load. Those torque converters don’t lock up till up 30+ mph in 3rd gear. A lot of heat generation before then. Those wheels are worth a pretty penny… OEM “bullet Hole” alcoas in pristine condition are rare these days. I may buy em from you to use as my commuter wheel with smaller tires…

Yeah it's gonna take me some time to dig around and figure what all has been done to the van. Original owners modified it a lot over the years so I'm sure we will find some things down the road we don't know about it now. Plan to watch the temps tomorrow to get an idea of it.

Good to know ok the wheels. Personally I love them, but there is not enough "poke". Tires site too far in, under the flares for my taste. Maybe spacers are the answer?

Yea it would be a good idea to invest in a monitoring device like the Edge Insight CTS3 as the dahs gauges are essentially dumby gauges and don’t tell you shit. I love mine and it’s nice to watch everything while I’m pulling and just daily driving. I’ll bet that thing weighs quite a bit so personally I would avoid spacers on it but plenty of people have run them without issue. Not advised when pulling a lot like most diesels but yours would probably be alright since it isn’t gonna be a tow pig lol. What year is it?

Yeah the torque app is not telling me as much as I want.

Tips the scales at 10k according to the sticker in the door. Will need to weigh it to know for sure, but it's heavy. I'll need to do some research to the safety side as you say.

The truck is a 2001 and has 124k miles. So far we've gone almost 200 miles today and the tank is still reading full :anonymous:

    Saw this truck today.

Dual 25gal. I'm hoping for 16mpg with the gears it has, which would be an incredible 800miles of range.

Nice. Hope you have a Costco membership. That 10¢ off a gallon would pay for itself with that pig.

@m3bassman how's the 7.3 noise level compared to the taco? Your truck was pretty loud but those 7.3 have some good motor noise!

Love the rig! You guys will have a ton of fun in it!

Yea the Edge is amazing for reading a lot of parameters on these rigs. Especially since it’s a HEUI injection system. Keeping an eye on icp and ipr readings is critical for any issues you may have with it. 124k isn’t shit!!!! Mine has 164k on it. Runs unbelievable well. It’s my daily and commuter between TX and CO. I can usually get anywhere between 350-400 miles on 3/4 tank on 35s with 3.73s with just the factory 28 gal I wanna say. Look into the hutch mod as well. Good for reliability. May be different for the “van” compared to the superdutys. Also, glow plugs need to be kept up and changed around 50k is what most people say staying with oem motorcraft glowplugs. I changed mine like 2 years ago maybe and I had no issue with em down to -15 in Wyoming. Let it glow for 30 seconds and it fired up great. They get a bad rep for not starting in the cold but using Rotella T6 5w-40 and a Whiting-Rogers Glow Plug Relay with maintained glow plugs and it’ll never be an issue. I keep rambling man sorry lol.

Honestly my Tacoma is way louder than my 7.3 on the highway. Some added turbo noises but thats gladly accepted lol. I’ll bet that van and all it’s accessories helps absorb a lot of cab noise as well even compared to a pickup such as mine.
