oh I thought part of his "package" was remote tuning?

 

It's sold separately and he was unresponsive. His base map was functional enough to get us started though thankfully, only thing that's non functional is the Idle Air Control valve. Unsure if its a definition error on type and control method or a wiring issue. We will figure it out tho

It's a moot point for me. Every tuning platform requires you to do your own work. I'm happy to learn more, it's good shit to know anyway

 

yeah for sure. But I'd still want to start with something 90% there or so. As there is NOTHING by me to help out haha not really anyways. Some diesel shops. Thats about it.

 

Well thankfully haltech software literally has remote tuning functions built in. Find a tuner anywhere online that specializes in haltech and they can probably help you. Gabe's base map was a solid 75% at least... Not saying every one of his base maps is going to be that good but this one was pretty solid

I wouldn't let my experience with SNP discourage you from considering the Haltech system. Except for a little idle quirkiness, this basemap was reasonable. Which was part of the deal. Additional remote support is available in 2-hour segments for a fee.

I feel very fortunate to have Zane's and Jayson's help to tweak the base setup. After adding a little to the starting setup, it has totally transformed the RedHead. So much more driveable. As a starting point, it is simply amazing and points to much untapped potential.

 

Awesome. Glad it's paid off! Will make the revival of Frankenstein much more interesting.

I take it you drove home? See any mileage changes?

 

As Zane described it, the current tune is a "safe" tune. Meaning it is probably running richer right now but we will eventually be able to lean it out some in the long term. I can tell you there is zero pinging in situations where the 7th is notorious for leaning out.

But to answer your question directly, yes, it took more fuel to get home. When I do a fillup tomorrow, I'll be able to answer that question better. But it does look like I lost a couple of MPGs over the 280 mile trip.

I am uploading a couple of videos right now that I'll post here is a couple of minutes. One of which is a long hill climb that shows that my engine is capable of producing 6+ psi without any detonation. I am super stoked by this.

Here is the video of the hill climb on i90 west from the Columbia river. It is about 10 miles long and the fully loaded RedHead typically needs to run it with OD off to maintain 70 mph. Not this time. Cruise control is on and it just cruises up easily at 70 mph without any downshifting behavior. At about 1:35 mark in the video I accelerated to see what the AFR and boost numbers looked like. This map is amazing and I know it is just the beginning.

No trans go kit yet.

The 1st to 2nd shift is improved, mostly because of changes to the throttle/trans cable position. It was a bit better even earlier when we were test driving it but I thnk Zane may have softened it up a bit. There is still an issue in the transition to idle, especially when fully up to running temps. A couple of times on the way home when getting off the highway (pulling into a rest stop) the idle got too low and it stalled.

From the video it looks like it is somewhere between 11 and 12. Hard to be certain. from the sound, the start is a tick before the 2 second mark.

It seemed like it. That 1st to 2nd shift was a bit softer. There was also a bit more weight in it compared to the morning run so maybe that is some of what I am feeling. In spite of the trans issues she is having, I still think the transgo kit is worth doing even though the trans temps were very reasonable on the drive home.

 

Is the Haltech controlling the trans also?
