Relevant wyoming content:

Yesterday we successfully ascended the CMC route on Mt Moran (GTNP). Mostly low class 5 pitches with some 5.4 stuff. My first simul climb. Summit at 12580ish (6800 starting) canoed across 2 lakes, hikes up some relentless class 2 bullshit to camp at 10k. then climbed up 1k or so, rapped down 100 or so, then climbed the face. Then did 5 raps to get off the face, followed by one quick 5.5 pitch back up to begin the hike down to camp.

 

Now that's some serious work! Looks fun Mark!

 

Monday (climb day) was 19 hours by the time we got back to the parking lot lol. Holy hell that was a tiring 45 min drive back.

Its weird answering "was it hard"...because it was all within my physical abilities, and climbing abilities, and generally within my comfort zone, and the climbing itself was fairly easy.

The X factor is that if you fell, most of the time the consequence was certain death. There were plenty of times we were not secured to the wall at all (just the style of climbing and difficulty), so falling off the face for either the lead or belayer member of the rope team would drag you both down a 1000ft wall. So as long as you could cope with and put that thought aside and climb safely and normally...ya it was easy. But if you cant, you wouldnt be able to take the first step.

 

Looks like an awesome adventure! Been to busy playing on a boat this summer to get out and do any climbing myself.

With the exception of the glacier recession, not much has changed in that place. Actually spent the night up there. Awesome.

 

Recently? I just noticed the tent. Glad you guys made it back there. Today is our 5th yr anniversary, and we just got back from a week in Alaska.

And congrats on making it to 5, I wasn't sure of the exact date but I knew it was August.

 

Literally! It was a bit chilly but not too bad. It tried to rain but never quite got there.

 

Obviously, I like that kind of camp site, so for me, it was the best of the trip. Loved hiking up onto the glacier the next morning. And congrats Ben!

I was just there for a few days to see family. Changed a lot since I was last up there 7ish years ago. A lot more development.
