I'm jealous of the debt free life. I just hope I live long enough to get there myself. Growing old is a privilege denied to many.

 

Ya thats the part im fed up with. This is a shitty backwards ass system where you sell the one thing that is truly priceless (your time, especially in your "youth") for almost nothing. people are selling their 20s for MINIMUM WAGE, for what?! So they can buy a house and build up a retirement account that might take a shit in the next financial crisis when they're 65? So they get 10 years of a retirement vacation? Its all a fucking scam to keep people consuming and producing wealth for a small subset of the population at the absolute lowest cost possible for their whole lives. I dont wait to wait to live long enough to reap the rewards. We have too much technology and too much efficiency for that to be the only option here.

 

Gotta be smart about that too.

 

The part that get's me is the percentage of income it takes to cover housing now.

Not to rag on you Mike, but I doubt a person who is in a similar financial situation now, as you were when you bought that house, would be able to afford it. It makes it very difficult to get your foot in the door.

Me too. And I hope society is able to evolve and figure it out as well, and allow future generations to peruse more fulfilling meaningful lives instead of this silly pursuit of growth for the sake of growth, and this monetary definition of "success"

 

100% in agreement! I'm kinda banking on something stupid I do in my free time killing me though. Cause frankly I could work 90years where I'm at and not be able to afford a house, so retirement is way outta the picture. Just need to die before the consequences of the even poorer planning that I'm using to justify the little bit of fun I can have now come back to haunt me in my decrepit years.

Yeah that's not a possibility anymore I think. I mean I was very lucky to not have debt at all until this project. And I can only afford it due to a tiny amount of family wealth from deaths in the family. It made a huge different to me, but its wild how small that amount really was in the big picture. Im sure I'll be glad I have it no doubt. If things go the way they have gone, it'll be a million dollar property in 15 years. Which is stupid to even say that. And feels wrong too.

Just wild how wide the gap is now compared to even just 10 years or so ago. Or 20.

And yeah, inflation sucks. But I hate more how corporations are seeing 40-70% profit gains...geee I wonder why... Tired of the "trickle down" econmics scam. I wish more people would be tired of it to.

And no not gross thankfully. But still 45% of my take home or more isn't going to be great..Just keep hoping for raises I guess ha and Devin's job growing will help too.

Whats even more annoying is that some people have figured it out and have cheated the system or worked their way through it. lots of self made millionares out there...supposedly. But I don't want to be a sales man. Or have capitol to invest in being an asshole real-estate investor.

yeah average nation cost of a house is over 400k now. We all know that its more than that in the places we live. Again I only have this house going down due to a bit of money from family. I would not be doing this without it. I don't even think an FHA loan is that helpful for most first time buyers now either.

And hell now with 6.5%+ interest rates. Average person can't afford anything now.

 

Luckily it's only houses that have gotten expensive /s.

 

It's possible still, like Mike I'm not bragging, but if I can do it building fence for the last 20yrs I would think anybody can. I had to learn how to manage money was the biggest hurdle and live within my means as Zane said. You can't manage 5 million if you can't manage $5, it's only zeros after that, it starts with nothing and you learn how to live outside the system you guys are complaining about. It's designed to keep you in debt, it's why they don't teach you in school imo. They want you attached to it, cause it benefits them. Be smart and learn how to discipline yourself off using debt and it's possible. It's not easy because it's contrary to what the world sells you on.

In the early 70's (yeah, I know, none of you guys were even a twinkle in your Pop's eye back then), interest rates were in the teens. It was bad. But prosperity came back.

 

Life is expensive, inflation is a symptom of widespread prosperity. We all have it pretty good in the US of A. I get it, I’ve lived it, worked three jobs at time when I had to, spent 16 years in Jackson Hole watching billionaires become trillionaires. IMO the disconnect is that you can get really wealthy working for someone else, you can’t. You have to come up with an idea or advantage in your field and capitalize on that. If you think housing is expensive, have a few kids on top of it, they'll cost you an extra 4K a month whether you need or not. It’s tough, it’s frustrating, but it’s reality. More money doesn’t really solve anything, you can be as broke on a couple of million a year as 60k, but our relative quality of life in the US is far better than those European countries that give everyone 2mos vacation every year. Maybe not a popular opinion here but; buy dirt, hold it for 20 to 30 years, enjoy your 25% ROI. If we were all rich in our youth there wouldn’t be anyone left to steer the ship, just my opinion.

Anyone know the part number for the "latch" for the tailgate at the bed? The two piece part with the rubber stopper? Also the bushing for the bottom bolt that acts as the hinge? I want to through my tailgate back on but have yet to locate these parts or their part numbers.

Also I dropped my tire pressure in the rear to 16psi and that seems to help the harmonics on the highway. Tires don't even squat at that pressure gonna be no grip in 2wd this winter....

 

I don't know what part you mean for the latch since there are a lot of pieces that make up the latching assembly (and I've never really looked closely at mine for rubber bits). But, looks like this has everything on it, including the bushings:
