    only thing that could be werid is the sense wire isn't hooked up.

    So dependign on what i did to the truck side for the sense wire,which i would have though Id do nothing and tie it in..but check that.


    fix would be to run the sense wire to the output lug just like i did on the GM alt.

    Ok, thanks. I'll see if I can get a pic that shows the truck side of the adapter. It'll be tomorrow before I can do that.

    edit: The sense wire coming out of the OEM alt is the white wire isn't it?

    correct the white wire is the sense one.

    Do you happen to know what would happen if the Alt-S fuse in the under hood fused box was removed? I guess it's not clear to me what that circuit does.

    oh, yeah thats the sense circuit. Try putting in a fuse there.

    You and Zane think alike.

    When the dash light stayed on after installing the OEM alt, he suggested that Alt-S fused might be blown. When I checked it (it's a 7.5a fuse), the fuse was good. That is part of why I am confused by this whole thing. The Alt-S fuse is good but that dash light is still on and the OEM alt is charging the system just fine.

    Does the fact that the alternator's power cable no longer goes directly to the fuse box factor into this? Recall, the alt is connected directly to the battery, through a circuit breaker.

    It'll be early may. Figure I'll have the AC redone by then so not a big deal. We are restricted due to K's work schedule. The plan is basically a drive day followed by an enjoy day before driving to the next spot, and with the distances means we should be able to have almost two days and lots of time to hike and explore. Biggest thing I'm trying to decide is onion creek or capital reef....

    You don't need frame plates you need springs. Green truck rides rough on road these days but it's been damn dependable, always starts and works even if the steering is sloppy and the ride rough. Calling for snow tonight so likely the car of choice tomorrow.

    When you turboing the red truck?

    We picked up Znüni just before Xmas. She is incredibly smart and loves the big dogs. We figured it was best to introduce a third while the two dogs are young-ish and can show her the ropes. Lots of anxiety with the decision but so far it feels like it was meant to be, the perfect fit. Lots of training still to do but she fits in great. Thankfully the van is big, I predict 110lb full grown...

    The ecu would be determining an output voltage from the fuse block ya? If no signal, ecu thinks zero voltage.

    Should not matter that the alt doesn't go into the fuse box. We would have ran a wire from the battery to the same lug the alt was orginally wired too. So as far as the fuse box is concerned, its' getting voltage one way or another and if it had a brain would assume its still connected to the alternator.

    I do that to all my trucks when I rewire them.

    So if the fuse is good, then its possible the wiring isn't. I'd be back to looking there.

    I just put all new suspension on it. Just di general HD spring for now. I dont' have to haul it very far really. But only done 2 loads. Will see how it lasts. I ahve some Skyjacker leafs to swap in/out as needed if I need it. Mostly it drives with the tank empty so doubt I'll need anything. But 1600lbs in the bed could do some frame damage over time. I'd still like to reinforce it.

    Turboing? No idea. I still have the kit i got. Guess I'll wait for Zane to finish his so I have an even better base line and point of referance. Plus I suppose this is all assuming I can afford anything haha


    Yeah thats a big ass dog. Our new pup probably won't break 45lbs. Which is great. Fits in the taco well. Lots of adventure energy still and a good lap dog to boot.

    The voltage is not the issue. Only the fact that the battery light is staying on. Refer back to the pic I posted in post #49698 on the previous page. That pic shows the voltage reading from the ECU through the scangauge.

    If I'm following your line of thinking (I know, kinda scary), the ECU knows what the voltage is because the fuse block is powered from a positive cable running directly from the starting battery. This is not the stock configuration. Normally, the alt's power goes to the fuse block first.

    New pup, you got a new pup!? When did I miss that!?

    Znüni is gonna be big but I drove 7 hr to Provo to get her and when I saw her and how big her paws were I knew she was more than we expected but what was I gonna do? I knew we would love her no matter what and I wasn't going home empty handed after 14hrs on the road lol
    Forget my line of thinking. In your setup with the gm alt, it wouldn't be through the fuse block and you would have had a light based on my theory. That's not the case so not true.

    yeah we got a rez dog from a norther reservation. His a mut, but so freaking cute. Mostly border collie, we think. But a smaller one. Drove 4 hours to get him haha He's awesome so far. Ollie is adjusting but they get along good for the most part. He needs a lot of exercise is all which will be much easier once we are out at our property full time. Happened in Novemeber, pretty sure I posted photos of him. He's fun.

    Big dog though man haha gonna be a hoot.

    Still building it lol. Who would have thought twins would leave you with no time to do things!

    But we found a nanny finally we like so that will free up time for me to work on it. Still have to a lot to do....three sides need the steel put on, all the outside trim, then the inside is still studs pretty much.

    Did get the garage door up though. And gotten some of the electrical in.

    Just a lot to do but also a lot I've gotten done considering I've done everything but the trusses solo

    I will and I'll get some pics if I can.

    What I haven't mentioned yet is the OEM alt is only temporary and is going to go back into the OSK eventually. I have a reman 105a denso (the one for a Suzuki Grand Vitara) I want to swap in at some point. Understanding what is happening now should make that swap that much easier.

    Im going to be blowing in insulation into my 1st floor ceiling/2nd story floor this weekend. Wish I'd done batts when I could have but this will do. Should make maintaining temperature on the 1st floor better.


    ahh nice. I thought that only swapped onto the 3rz for some reason...or maybe thats the Jag one.

    Also you should get the higher voltage output diode thing to make it charge at 14.8v or whatever. I want to do that once I have the ability to buy things again that aren't construction related.

    I certainly missed the post of the new addition. In the same breath, our two are taking some time to adjust to the pup. Congrats, a lot of fun teaching and bonding. Doing a lot better with my patience than I had with V which is good on multiple layers.

    I supposed it wont hurt anything. But I am not convinced that our 1st gens need something like that. 2nd and 3rd gens, absolutely. They have systems in place that throttle back their alt output in favor of fuel economy. Our trucks don't do that.

    The argument for higher voltage is to benefit AGM type batteries as they prefer to be charged at 14.3-14.8. But 14.4 is way more than enough for regular, flooded type, lead acid batteries. Are you running an AGM battery and the Headlight Services upgraded wiring harness along with the Super Bright Osram 100/90 watt halogen headlight bulbs? If the answer is no, save your money.
