Lots in Mt but kind of odd for sure.

Morrison is indeed shut down for the forseeable future.

You could try googling "Wyoming BDR" to see what sections are truck friendly. I will say this, don't leave anything unlocked or unattended in the Lander/Riverton areas. Can't speak toward other Rez towns, but I know those are high theft areas.

Monte - kitchen is looking great! @Blackdawg

The entire route is truck friendly.

@MedlinAround - we ran it last year (the first year it existed) and it was one of our favorite so far. Trip report with photos, here: Wyoming Backcountry Discovery Route (Jul 2022)

Edit: Just back from a week down in the Joshua Tree area (and the Dale mining district just to the east of it). Lots of people - which I should have expected but didn't for some reason - but still some cool stuff. Not a place I think I need to go back to all that much though... just too crowded.

Had sustained 40mph winds with 75mph gusts and snow one night. Had to park the truck facing into the wind and shivered in the cab since there was no way I was setting up the tent in that craziness!

Took a couple longer hikes to get away from the crowds and saw a couple cool things...

Pretty sweet! That snow and wind gusts sound terrible. I've looked at some lot of your photos of some places, great stuff!

When you say first year it's existed, are you saying they developed new roads to connect or that someone just coined a bunch of existing roads as a BDR?

Oh, definitely just put together a bunch of stuff that already was there, much of which I've enjoyed in the past. It's just that with the WY one (which they published last year), they've chosen a good route (as opposed to say, NM or WA, which are sort of...meh IMO).

The BDR group (http://ridebdr.com) is mostly an adventure motorcycle group, though all the routes seem to be "4WD" friendly as well. Each year they try to release a new route. This year they released their version of OR (and are now competing with the "original" OR BDR folks, which is a little lame.

We've done six of the states now (one a year since 2017), and while you can easily look at any state and say "boy, they missed X, Y, and Z," they are a fun way to spend a week or so out on the trail, seeing (sometimes boring) things across the states back roads. We like to use them to sort of see what part of a state we want to "come back to." (here are the six we've done: BDR (Backcountry Discovery Route))

Also, if you're looking to put together your own route, they can be a good way to connect various places via dirt/low use roads, vs. getting on the freeway.

This guy shows a few things in Wyoming, but don't trust the info he states. https://youtu.be/yhdoq6juMM4

12 minutes in he says that Farson doesn't even have a gas station, and it is literally off camera to his right. He stopped about where the red X is and the building he is pointed at is circled. You cannot possibly miss the fuel pumps to the right coming up the road. I stopped there for fuel a hundred times when I was driving on my CDL. He was blind at best, or lied to inflate the sense of emptiness of Wyoming at worst.

And I commented on it so others would know, and he blocked the comment. Sleazy. Thumbs down his video for the misinformation.

Likewise man! Been a long time, hope you're all doing well.

May or may not happen haha we'll see though. Sentimental value is about all that's keeping it around. Still a great rig, I just hardly drive it anymore. Enjoying 4Runner life though.

I feel you there. When Mike was over I realized that I am 2 yrs past an oil change :anonymous: but in my defense I haven't put even 5k miles on it in 2 years...

So far it's a lotta fun. An interesting contrast to the Tacoma on a lot of levels.

I understand what monte was saying about the back end after a road trip in ours this past weekend. Wondering if just a bushing rebuild would help since I has 300k on the clock. Grabbed some OME suspension from a pick and pull salvage that I need to put on, hoping that stiffens it up a little.

I've felt what you guys are talking about. @m3bassman mentioned it too. Mine 'only' has 228K on it.

I was figuring that feel was due to the coil spring/panhard bar design. But that is only a guess. I'll be curious what you think after upgrading your suspension components.

    What year in your 4R?

Its an 01, wish I had held out for a manual. Auto Trans had a hard time downshifting for togwotee pass. Had to jam it to the floor to get get it to respond. Don't remember the DC doing that even though it's the same trans
