As a woodworker, I hate paint.

Does cover up shitty work nicely though. ;)

I won't have to do that even, I have floor trusses in the ceiling so the I joinst has a lip. Should just hold it batts.

The real queastion is if I bother doing batts or do compact blown in which is usually better R value. Its 2x6 walls so R21 minimum is nice. Ceiling joists are 12''(idk why they speced such big ones) so they can hold a LOT. Which is nice as the literally ceiling of the bonus room is the same joists and I'll want as much insulation there as possible due to vaulted ceiling.

And could prefer to do pretty thick Safe n Sound Batt insulation in the ceiling as it will be cold in the garage compared to the living space. So efficency is important. Plus isolation for sound if I'm working in there and someone is sleeping/watching tv up there.

I go back and forth on it.
Use wool! Not fiberglass and you'll never be itchy

Nice looks good! Those walls look like a PITA haha I definitely won't have that issue. Just a few electrical wires in the way.

Mine is like 12' high to if I go into the joists I think. So that could be a bit of a pain.

Not sure if they have wool rolls, but unless I'm working with 8' tall walls, I always use the rolls rather than the batts; that way you get the length you need more easily. Usually cheaper too (at least, in this neck of the woods).

I don't love blow-in, but that's because I'm usually the one taking the wall apart (and then trying to put it back together) later, hahahaha!

Not regularly, though I've stumbled on a few of the projects every now and then.

Yep! I was a kid but yeah I totally remember it. His other one was piling like 4-500lbs of sliced deli ham on a bed...

    No I don't get it.

    But was apparently "art".

I do know the house was slated to be demolished so he did that to it first.

This guy showed up today, 100-400... always wanted one and finally do. Bought it used from B&H, was surprised that is came in the original packaging, with case, manual and what looks like a brand new hood to go along with it. Only a couple minor dings, not like I won't do some myself. The worst part is getting it just as the sun goes down so I can't play with it until this weekend :/

I had rented this lense a decade ago, and I still go back to the photos as some of my all time favorites. So I am hoping that I can get back into it and capture much more.

So I've basically bitten the bullet to dive back into photography by revamping my whole setup. As I said I got the new lens, but then quickly encountered performance issues with the T2i over the weekend so upgraded to a used 7D MKii. Certainly not the latest and greatest but it should be a solid upgrade over what I have and the price was right.
    Upgrades over the T2i:
    • Faster burst rate
    • More megapixels
    • Weatherproof
    • Better ISO performance
    • Servo AF
And while I was there, I picked up a used 1.4 extender as I've always been curious about them. Gives me a reach of 900mm on the big end. Well that's gonna be impossible to hand hold so a tripod was ordered. And since now I'll have 2 bodies, and I lost my nifty fifty in the divorce, I scooped up a used 28mm f2.8 for the T2i. Suffice to say I will have plenty to learn and play with this coming summer. Certainly fell into a bit of a rabbit hole with getting gear but generally it's buy once cry once with this stuff. The T2i should perform well still for landscape shots, below you can see some of the digital defects I have begun to find. I bet I can fix them in PS once I grow back my skill set, but I'll just reserve it for landscapes for now. (Defects are center of the image)

Curious, why you went that route instead of a used R6 (since the R6mk2 has reduced those prices quite a bit, or something in the RF glass lineup). I'm guessing it's so you can re-use existing glass, etc.?

I didn't love the transition from EF (well, EF-S) to RF, but as you mentioned, I felt like it was the cry once mentality. I cried a long time though, hahahha. There's also definitely fewer options for glass in the RF lineup still. My "daily" is a 24-240 (very similar to the 18-135 that Monte introduced me to), but I wish they had a red-ring/L variant. Wouldn't be cheap, probably, but I've started to get some dust in this pro-sumer version. And the AF on the R6 is freaking crazy. Not that it matters for the 99% landscapes I shoot.

Anyway, I very much look forward to seeing your results. I've always felt like you've got a great eye. Glad you're getting back into it!

Honestly I wasn't expecting to buy a new body so the glass came first. To be honest, after mlthe little experience I had with the Fuji mirrorless, which was supposedly one of the better ones, I didn't like it. The digital view finder I really disliked. So I guess the answer is I never even considered it. A quick glance and the R5 and R6 are around $3k used (no mki R6 in stock). I picked up the 7D for $650 as "like new" condition. Just got hands on it at lunch and I can't find a single blemish in it.
    Screenshot_20240227-125323.png

Just got to play briefly and test out the burst rate, I think it's going to make a big difference for me. When you're shooting a target that moves as much as a small bird, you miss a lot of shots. Won't get to play with it for a couple days but can't wait to see how much more I can do with it. Quite the size difference from the old setup. Ordered a shoulder harness setup for it to make life easier:laugh:

And thanks, I have heard that before, I just think I am lucky, right place, right time. Maybe I'll get luckier now ;)

Yeah, I get the ordering thing, makes sense.

Also, the EVF is 100% the worst part of the mirroless. It takes a lot of getting used to, just to "use" it, and it is a battery hog -- I only get 1-1.5 days out of a battery now, instead of a week.

The rest is pretty great, but I'd still be 100% happy with my 80D if I hadn't run it over like an idiot.

I'll be able to take pictures of you guys when I'm miles behind, lumbering along in the van haha

Your hand was forced on that one. Didn't even think of the battery drain, that's a huge bummer. I think the DSLRs have always withstood a week long trip without pushing the batteries. Maybe one day mirrorless will be the future, I'm not there yet though. Do you ever really get used to the EVF?

You're still probably faster than I drive. ;)

There are things I like about the EVF now, and I would say that I'm used to it. But, even the battery issue aside (which is the biggest issue for me) I can't say that I prefer it. I'd have to try the optical VF again to know for sure.

Two things that are quite nice about the EVF are:

    1. I can look directly at the sun and not worry that I'm looking at the sun. I know that sounds weird, but I've gotten to like shooting sunstars in various situations. I'm sure it's easy to do (just use the LCD on the back) with a DSLR as well, but I hate shooting with the LCD for some reason.

    2. It is quite nice to see all the stuff you can see on the LCD after taking a shot, on the EVF before/while you're shooting. Blown out whites, lost darks, all there. Any settings (exposure, depth of field, etc.) all there. So, from that perspective, it's nice because it's more real time.

Still, there are drawbacks. Sometimes I put it up to my eye and it has to fade from white (100% of the frame completely over exposed) to the correct exposure, b/c I'd just taken the lens cap off, and so it was wide open before I raised it up. With stuff like that, I still groan and wish for the DSLR.
