So turbo makes more power per psi vs the blower? Also peak horsepower and torque lower in the rpm range. I struggle to see the benefit of the SC other than simplicity.

@Digiratus does this have you pondering switching?

As much as I want to, I am going on a trip to the mountains here, then south to northern Nevada.

 

I might pick up some tubes so we can float in it. Planning on being there for two days. Don't have a working pole but maybe can get one together. Haven't fished it before.

Oh nice that sounds cool. Always been curious if some areas in Nevada.

Plus I don't know if the van survive haha

 

I'm not sure how much I'll see if Nevada really. Basically trying to catch the UP 4014 between Wells and winnimuca as it passes through on its western tour.

 

No parasitic loss from driving the charger and much less intake heat. On a strong pull I'll peak intake temps at 120° vs the charger at 180°+

 

On this rig, nah. Too much invested. I like where its at. Super fun all around.

Probably stay with the 2.2" pulley too. Unless Ben was to come put his truck on the Mustang dyno here in Spokane. Then I might be tempted to try a 2.1. haha

I was not the organizer but was grateful to be included on the v.i.p. list.

We had planned to do the shocks this weekend anyway, but I didn't find out about the dyno op until last Wednesday.

 

It's just a drive (unless you want to hike at the end), and probably reasonably crowded this time of year, but Lamoille Canyon is a beautiful drive. Probably really nice right about now with green. The hike to Lamoille Lake at the end isn't too hard, and it's pretty up there too.

Not sure how far off your route that is, but it's between the two cities. I'd been wanting to go for years and we finally made it last winter.

 

Thanks for the tip. I'm not looking to do anything too far from pavement. The purpose of the trip is to photograph the historic locomotive as it passes through. Been hunting vantage points along the route to hopefully get some good shots. Otherwise I'll hunt for some places to take pictures of some birds with the new lens.

 

Speaking of, i guess it is worth sharing a few of the images ive captured in the first few days with the 600 f4... so far an amazing lens, only thing that has been a struggle was the AF being finicky with the extender. i think if i run those i need a tripod and a more stationary shooting spot vs my current method of wandering around aimlessly.

Ahh, I wanted to catch the M when it was a little closer to me, but I was down near DV at the time. Lamoille is all pavement, so from that perspective, it's easy; just a matter of how far from where you'll actually be.

That lens will be fun I bet. I was wishing for just such a thing last week when I was trying to get birds and lizards. Just wouldn't get as much use for me usually though, and I already feel like two lenses are too many, hahaha.

 

Which day you thinking of hitting it?

 

It had been quite eye opening having such a a BIG lens. It takes more time and effort to swap lens with it. Just managing the size has been a learning curve. And the biggest thing I'm sure for you would be the price. At $7500 (used), you better use it a lot to make it worth your money, otherwise it's a non starter. Honestly the 100-400 series of glass from canon, while also spendy, is the ideal lens for those that want a high quality telephoto without the insane price. The only real justification for myself with this lens is I'm selling one toy (Mercedes) for this new toy, and I know I'll get a lot of use. More than likely I'll have it with me next time we meet up and you'll have to take it for a spin.

 

Damn was hoping you'd be like yeah I'll be there! Oh well.

Handheld at 600mm is pushing it as it is much less 1200. Definitely need a tripod for that focal length.

You can still wander with a tripod don't worry.

Going in on the 4th and heading out on the Saturday. So two nights at the lake.
