I've never used one but that's because they're more of a diesel thing. I use the spool assist feature in Haltech though with my 4 port boost solenoid to jam the gate shut and hold it shut until the moment you near your target then it starts attenuating wastegate flow.

Yeah I remember you talking about that.

Might try it if I ever get to it. I'd be going for power from 1800-3000 rpm more than anything which would be fun to try for.

Smaller turbo, GT3071 .82ar or maybe even a little smaller. Just don't shoot beyond 15psi and it shouldn't have a rolloff problem. The turbo that comes with the CX kit is a bit of a joke anyway. I like having a little (can build 7psi) down low but not a lot since that's where you'll bend rods and detonate. Plus it lets me stay out of boost really easily just hanging on the highway. I actually don't let quickspool activate below 2000 RPM just because it gets annoying to manage around town

Im eyeing an 6262 or a 6764 with .63 AR or even .58. The 67 should allow for lots of flow but low pressure.

    Good point on the rods.

I was also looking that the rotary switch for the Haltech so you can have multiple boost maps or fuel maps or both. Although they don't say which units support how many maps ect which is annoying. I'd like to do that to have like an "eco" mode, Fun mode, and standard.

There's a good many ways to achieve what you're talking about, 2500 will support the most alternatives being that it has 4d mapping but still you can make a rotary toggle do just about anything you want on a 750 too. Download the software and play, it's free. I use a basic three position switch and dropper resistors to get my three modes. But could just as easily have wired in the haltech or AEM version with 12 positions. I just didn't need so many and had a switch on hand already. I wouldn't put a .63 ar turbo on the 5vz, it will cause exhaust restriction and is going to increase the potential for knock. 6262 isn't an awful size but I'd urge a .82 or larger exhaust housing. You're gonna walk a fine line finding a turbo... I really do think the 3071 is what you'd want. Heck if I was gonna do it again, or I blow out this turbo, I'm gonna do a 3071 as well

    I have 4cyl pushing through a 48 housing. I don't think a 63 would be bad with 3 cylinders pushing through it.

I don't think the 5vzfe flows enough for a .63 AR to be an issue. I wouldn't go any larger than .68 personally.

Yeah I saw you could just use your own switch. But you're saying the 750 will let you do that? They don't really say that the the 750 can't do different boost maps or fuel maps any different than a 1500 or a 2500.

I don't even know what 4D mapping is haha

Which software you using? They have 2 now...

You may have to learn it for yourself but it is has been shown that a .63 housing on a 5VZ becomes a limit, guys with exhaust MAPs have way hotter manifold temps and higher exhaust manifold pressures, at super low boost it is a non issue but above 6ish PSI it was really lowering the knock threshold and knock was noticeable on knock ears at even 8psi. Besides the difference in spool is so minimal between the two. If you haven't been keeping up with turbo technology and going off what you knew 10 years or more ago then it is time to forget it all and relearn. I'm telling you a 3071 .82 is gonna do what you want... right @Jon64l?

I do like @Reh5108 twin setup idea though...

Download the latest NSP software and play around, you can select any ECU you want and setup the combo of maps and switches and see if it complains or not.

What I really want is a BG Twinscroll. But i don't want to even think about making a header for that.

I have all 3 housing sizes for my Gt3582r. .82 was the best overall. .63 choked earlier with no noticeable spool increase.

I switched to a Gt3076r with .82. Much quicker spool (500rpm~) but less power up top.

This is old turbo technology. If I was to do a new unit, it would probably be a G30-660 or 770 with probably a .83 to start.

Well I need to do some more reading then and get caught up.

Not like I'll be doing this any time soon. But one can plan.

What’s a “partly busted motor”? Could be an easy flip, you should snag it.

He wants the tcase out of it. And maybe the rear axle too.

I would assume so, not sure what the interchangeability is with the AWD t-case but could do a swap with the case off the truck (but which one?). The e-locker would be tough because the housing would have to be set up for links to go on the 4runner, but he just got a 4.56 OEM diff, so would have to choose between that or the locker. Or get the diff regeared, which would kinda kill the savings.

Wish me luck! Kinda feels like a crap shoot, I think I know where it'll run, but not exactly when. I have a couple locations in mind along 80 so hopefully I can get out in front of it for a couple passes. Should be a much different trip than my usual.

I was hoping to capture it at a unique spot on the line, but I'm not certain I want to sit out baking in the heat waiting for it to show up if I cant get the van in position. How cool would this be with your drone @turbodb
