You're going to only explore the not interesting United States of America side of the Gulf of Mexico?

I've been to the Keys a few times, it's just Florida but somehow it got more expensive. Go take a picture by the red dildo at the end of the continental United States and call it a day, that's all there is to do there other than buy souvenirs. Also lol id just skip corpus christi unless your into morbidly obese people watching.

The idea I have for the trip, it is inspired by the movie The Big Year. That way there is a sense of purpose and something to guide the journey. If I were to lack direction the trip would find me aimlessly wandering and I would not have much of any desire to go to fucking Florida
Sure maybe not as interesting, but that doesn't mean it's boring. I honestly wouldn't do that trip at all solo, and would have reservations about doing it at all as I would be very concerned about safety on that one. Waaay more expensive too. I watched a series by trail recon (you tube) as he made a journey up to the Arctic Ocean and found it to be very interesting. Plus the purpose of the trip is to photograph birds and that aligns with going north for the summer.

Any expedition into Florida is aimless

Don't forget your tapioca and cane.

There's a ton of birds on Cascade reservoir. Cranes, pelicans, sea gulls, osprey, eagles, gooses, ducks, grebes ect.

There are still pockets of them at the higher elevations, certainly most have moved on from the valley furnace. But we are certainly not going to see a lot of the sea bird types around.

    Long-term road trips - incredible

    Bird photography - lame

    :luvya:

You still fishing at all? I spent most of my 4.5 month trip fishing, with plenty of mountain biking mixed in.

I did 4.5 months in 2021. I would've done long, but life happened...

Highly recommend it if you can pull it off.

that sounds like a very biased point of view lmao. Once you get past the surface layer of tourist bull shit (just like every popular town in the world), there is so much incredible history, culture/art, natural beauty and entertainment.

If you need some reccomendations ben, let me know haha.

when we were at the dry tortugas there was a group of guys there that chartered an expedition yacht because its a critical migratory path for some well known bird, and they were there for 3-4 days mostly for that alone, to watch and photograph this massive gathering of migratory birds lol (they were so fucking loud all the time. the birds, not the people)

What Ive leaned from my time galavanting around, is that you have to do things that interest you while youre traveling. If you dont like art, or hate going to meuseums, then going to art/meuseums while traveling because "thats the thing to do" on the top 10 things to do in XXX place, will leave you feeling aimless and unfufilled....but everyone does it because people generally lack creativity or motivation.

Once I gave up going to the "coolest places", and started planning my itinerary and destinations around shit I actually enjoyed (biking, climbing, hiking, skiing) i had way more fun, got WAY off the beaten tourist path, and had truly fufilling experiences.

I know it sounds obvious, but so many people miss that idea when planning to "travel". It also takes so much more time to plan than just picking a city and filling in the details with whatever is in the vacinity.

Or if you have plenty of time, yolo it as you go haha. hate some place? leave early...love some place? stay another week. thats the ultimate goal

Back and mostly unloaded. Gotta keep it primed for a Goose run this weekend and tobacco roots next.

Great trip! Was a very cool new area to explore.

Also totally miss the temps we were living in. It's miserable here. And super smoky. Ugh.
