We were going to throw a canopy on the truck, maybe try a dog platform and sleeping platform. Then off to Spokane to rebuild the suspension with Zane.

only down side is you can't run stock skids or any skids that mount like stock. You have to run allpoos skids.

I realized that when we were installing the bumper.... Small price to pay I suppose. Beats the hell out of the trail gear bumper. It was the best I could do :notsure:

We could always modify it to take regular skids. I mean it's just steel... And I own a welder

I don't care for the look of the trail gears. If it was they had I would've gotten it, I just need a bumper, but this was a nice alternative even with the goofy ass hoops. Of course it's pouring rain here in Seattle so we will have to deal with the rust when I get to zanes tomorrow.

Well, I feel like an ass, since I wasn't here to help with the platforms. Sorry about that!

For some reason, I thought Ben was going to be here next week, and in a massive twist of irony, I was here:

    upload_2024-8-25_10-52-50.png

The afternoon was nice, and we were able to drive all the way to very end of the road, hiking another few hundred feet to the glacier (which was both cool and a bit of a bummer that so much has melted).

    upload_2024-8-25_11-2-11.png

I wasn't the only one taking photos, which meant it had to be pretty amazing.

    upload_2024-8-25_10-57-6.png

Then, around 8:30pm as darker clouds were rolling in, we saw some lightning on the other side of the ridge. Filmed it for a bit, and then @mrs.turbodb said, "I think we've got about a minute before the rain starts" at which point we relatively calmly climbed into the tent so we wouldn't get rained on. Problem was, the rain was accompanied by 50-60mph winds, blowing downhill. I was physically holding the frame of the tent down and was slightly concerned that the entire thing would blow off the truck with us in it (and we were parked at the same spot you and I parked Mike, so it was a long way down).

After an hour or so, neither the rain nor wind was relenting, and we made the call to get out of the tent, close it up as best we could, and get into the cab. That was scary as shit. Do not recommend.

It was a long night, and drive home the next day.

Serves me right, I suppose. The Ben-gods revenge for my missing my buddy in Seattle.

Got home last night around 10pm after a very long drive and no sleep. Oh, and we ran into this on our way down. Of course, I'd left my chainsaw at home thinking that this late in the summer there'd be no need for it. Took a little under an hour to clear it with the axe.

I think that kind of wind is pretty common up there. IIRC, similar happened when we were there. Your tent wanted to close up on you in spite of hanging water weight off it to prevent it.

Oh, it was way more than water weight. We both had to sit on the hinged side to keep it from folding up. One person (me) + water weight wasn't enough. That's why I was worried about it ripping out the fasteners on the bottom and blowing off the truck.

She has been sleeping all day today on the way back. Clearly a big fan. Nothing fancy but works perfectly. Just rolled back to Nampa no drama. Getting 19mpgs has me on the fence of putting thirty fives on... Hmmm.
I'm going to assume you used an outlook calendar so no harm done.

Hard sides is the way to go...

Very random but my car apparently made some headlines.

We were talking about this in the moment. And, a GFC would have allowed us to climb down into the shell and (mostly) close the tent from the inside.

32s man if it's your dd. Keep those mpgs decent. Then when you have some room/funds/whatever get some 35s on separate wheels(or on your current fav ones) to swap for trips.

Or just don't insist on parking on the edge of every peak facing the wrong direction into the wind :p it's okay to put your tent up in a slightly sheltered area

It's a high probability. Would run these till they die until we found dry rot in the sidewalls... As much as it looks fit for 35s it is hard to argue the mpg I got this weekend. 35s could work but it would need 4.88 to gain back 70% of the driveability and mogs.
