From my research, and what was posted on the pirate thread and a couple on custom tacos, it was the pre-Tacoma r150’s (behind a 3VZ) that were incompatible with the r452 Dyna parts. Any Tacoma 5vz-r150 combination should be fine.

How much does the brand of wheel spacers matter? I'm looking for 1" (which I think is the minimum w/o messing with the existing studs), and I found a couple on amazon + Trail Gear (from Summit). Naturally, the trail gear are 3x the price, but they are all speced similarly.

I don't know that it actually matters, they may come from the same place... But Bora and Spidertrax have good reputation

Mine were from Allpro. I kind of doubt it matters that much. But then again could cheap out on the studs or the aluminum too so.. :notsure:

    Thx.

Spidertrax only has 1.25" and thicker (that I can find).

Bora does have 1". Bora is also pricey (US made which is nice...even if it doesn't/shouldn't technically matter). Apparently, they also have any size I want, and I'd probably go with 1/2" if that didn't mean mucking around with the studs.

Maybe I should just bite the bullet on the studs though, since I hate mud and it seems like fewer points of failure...

Not sure if is still true or not, but in the past I've read that some tire shops will not work on a rig that has wheel spacers. YMMV.

The only "downside" supposedly is potentially more wear on wheel bearings.

Idk if that's true or not. And if you torque right and use the et thread lugs to mount the spacers you'll never have issues.

    I'll put it this way.

I ripped the entire front wheel/spindle/everything off....twice...with spacers on. And they were fine.

Doubt you'll even tweak em out any more.

1" will look good I bet!

Besides sleeping the van outside the apartment all has gone well today. Vans in storage, everything is moved in, now to unpack...

Wow, big move. We actually just moved away from New Mexico in June. Quite a bit of exploring opportunities in the state and I think you’ll be surprised how much there is. I’m already kind of missing how “empty” the state felt regarding people.

We're you in Albuquerque by chance? I may pick your brain in a PM for some places to start. Lots of nothingness out of town here. I like it.

Nah, down in Alamogordo beside White Sands National Park. But, we did take a few trips North of Albuquerque. The Jemez Mountains and Tres Piedras district of the Carson National Forest can be pretty empty, even on holiday weekends.

Also, Los Alamos is 100% worth a visit if the birth of nuclear weapons is of any interest. Tons of history and interesting stories, especially if you stop and talk to the locals.

I'll have to check those out. Getting a piece of trininite would be so cool.

We moved to Northern California, near Sacramento. I'm still in the military. It's nice to be somewhere green with water, but it feels a little crowded. I can make due for 4-8 years, though. I've always wanted to attempt the Rubicon at least once, so now's the perfect opportunity living 2.5 hours from the trailhead.

If you want to tour the Trinity site, it's limited. Something I regret never getting around to doing.
