Going to be up from Colorado at the beginning of October and staying in Saratoga for a few days. Looking for some info on trails in the area. Not looking to get crazy as I'll be with some drivers that have little to no experience. Rigs are more than capable but I don’t want to put anyone too far out of their comfort zone. Looking for more than just a dirt road with some small rocks but no major crawling. Might break away for something a little more technical if I can but will likely be running solo for that. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks for the assist!

There are a few roads in the Snowies that are fun. Road 103 is a good one, goes by Dipper Lake north of HWY 130. South off of 130 is road 336 which goes south across Libby Flats. You can take the spur road (396) to the east to check out Bear Lake and Silver Run Lake. If you keep heading south on 336 it meets up with road 343, or Jim Creek Road, which is another fun one. None of these roads are difficult, but do require low range 4 wheel drive and ground clearance. There is one spot on 336 on Libby Flats that requires a bit of spotting, as you cross a bunch of boulders in a dry stream bed. If you take road 512 down to Pickeroon Campground, there is a road that crosses the Platte River and then goes up a pretty fun steep hill up toward the south, and you can drive out to HWY 230 from there. You will want to get out and walk the river crossing though to see where the large rocks are. It can look intimidating but I've taken my taco across it numerous times and it's nothing fancy. Lots of other roads in the Snowies to explore too. Don't forget you swim suit, the hobo hot springs can be fun in Saratoga.

I can already tell I want one of my own. The fact that these tiny little drones can poke to 3 kilometers out is wild to me. For exploring all the new land it'll be a great addition.

The new ones can do a lot more than 3km; my Air 3 easily does 12 miles with line of sight (they say 32 km, but I've only gone 12 mi). And I think the mini 4 is up to 20 km.

One thing to be aware of - which you may have already discovered - is that range drops dramatically without line of sight. A lot like CB radios. Makes it "only OK" for exploring new land/trails in my experience, but regardless of that, they are super fun.

That's pretty wild. I find that that capability kinda blurs the whole part where you're supposed to maintain visual contact if the drone in flight. At a certain distance that becomes pretty much impossible.
Ya ya ya, blah blah blah. Already certified and have the appropriate FAA apps for that. At 242 grams this drone doesn't need registered at least.

    Not with/unless you have a 600mm lens. ;)

Just be smart about where you fly it. You have a lot of leeway with the <250g minis. The app is good (and at least on mine, it has some database of geofenced areas/altitudes built into the controller); and of course knowing the macro things like "no drones in National Parks or Wilderness areas." Then, just be a decent human when I'm out in the wild is my approach.

Would probably have to be a lot more careful if I ever flew it around civilization.

It's all common sense type stuff. I am fortunate to have several acres next to me to practice and fly around and get used to the controls.

Jayson got a new tent, brand new, for $300. Honestly I thought it was going to be too big. But it's not very heavy and it kind of looks sick covering the whole bed. We are going to add another leg to the rack though.

Figure this one out, in Idaho I was quoted $950 to rebuild my driveshaft. Bought a whole new unit here in NM for $600. Hoping it solves the vibrations and humming that creeped up since lifting the truck.

Yeah it was a full rebuild. But then I went to a driveline shop here and they said it was almost the same price to rebuild the whole thing vs buy a new one. Should be all new, flange to flange. Should find out early this next week.

Went for a drive and flew the drone. Was reminded of SE Oregon with some of the rocks and terrain.
