Thanks Zane. I have that one saved. Need to fix the vibration before I start buying fun things like that for the truck. New driveshaft should be in this week and I hope that fixes it. It's the only thing that makes sense as the whole truck has a low bassy resonance above 60 when in neutral even. Those two extra bolts we added were definitely the problem :anonymous:

Probably was just the rear u joint. They go out more often after you've lifted it. Which I know you just re lifted it but still. Might not have been an issue with you lowering it and now it is again.

I'm happy to plan something for December! I've only got one free week in there, so it'll be Dec 15-22 that I'll be looking at.

Yeah, unfortunately, we've got family trips planned the rest of the month already because of how @Mini's school dates panned out for us... Can get back a bit earlier if desired.

I didn't check it to be honest. I popped in a new spicer unit like 3-4 years ago so I would be surprised if it is failing already with what, 30k miles on it? The slip yoke is worn out, there's slop between the teeth. The carrier bearing is the original and in rough shape. At that point it just made sense to replace it all. Cost barely more than the cost to rebuild it all.

That cost to rebuild was dumb too, like way high. Murl here in Spokane will do it all and put in a new DC for around $380 or so. Just had my BMW 2 piece one quoted, gonna be $160 if I bring him parts.

Ya but the last shop quoted $900 to rebuild the driveshaft so I felt this was a good price. I guess it's just somewhere in the middle.

    Whatcha think?

Mike, Zane, Ben, (anyone else) - interested?

Anyone have preferences on the bookends of those dates? (Dec 15-22) I want to buy some plane tickets, and I'm going down no matter what, but will sync up dates if it's going to be a group trip!

What's the plan, I might be able to make it happen with personal holiday days and three days weekends

I mean, there is no plan as yet, but it's something along the lines of:

12/14 or 15 -- arrive at Death Valley or Mojave Preserve (I suspect; pending weather, could be somewhere else in the Mojave

    12/15-16 - 12/20-21 - explore

If DV (which would be my preference), it would be pretty much all new stuff since 2021. I'd work up something that included:
    • Day 1:
      • Eureka Valley and camp at Sand Dunes (includes hike to top; this is a short hike, but has a bit of elevation)
    • Day 2:
      • Dedeckera Canyon and Steel Pass; marble bath
      • Saline Valley Hot Springs (can camp/soak if people want, or not)
    • Day 3
      • Some (at least one) cool mine in Saline Valley/Inyo Mountains (this is a short hike, but has a bit of elevation)
      • Saline Valley Salt Tram
    • Day 4
      • Tucki Canyon (fun trail, mine at end)
      • Skidoo (amazing old mill, ghost town)
    • Day 5
      • Cottonwood Canyon, Marble Canyon
      • hike to rock art (3 to 5.5 miles roundtrip in wash, not too steep)
    • Day 6
      • is there a day 6?
12/21 or 22 (or whenever if people want to leave early) -- home

    Some notes:
    • This is just one possible itinerary. I can obviously add/remove tons of stuff, and will keep looking for cool stuff between now and then.
    • We can do more or less hiking
    • If in Death Valley
      • We're limited to 4 vehicles.
      • Pups have to be leashed in camp and aren't allowed on trails.
    • If in Mojave Preserve
      • We're limited to 7 vehicles.
      • Pups have to be leashed and are allowed on trails.
    • @mrs.turbodb is probably coming (in case Devin / other S/Os want to come)

My vibrations are nearly gone after replacing the CB. I'd imagine it could be the same results for you. Even with the worn out slip yoke. But an all new driveshaft is well worth it for the ol rig.

No Devin I think. A) she's a bit over the truck style trip. B) I think she'll have to work. Not sure.

Im still not certain those dates work for me yet.

It could be just the CB but I don't want to know what happens when the slip yoke slips in the teeth  being boosted I do send a lot more power through that connection these days so peace of mind with a new unit. I'll need to see about spacing the CB, I think I put washers on it years ago but could be revisited if the vibes are there after the fact. I have a bad jolt when letting off the throttle that also tells me the whole thing is worn out and sloppy.

If they were to work for you, would you show up on Sat or Sun? That's all I really need to know to book my trip down... We're getting back into town on Saturday, but could fly out the same day if you'd be showing up Sat.
