    I'll be curious what's left of Idaho when I go back. No joke it is BAD there right now.

    Probably a year before I have a grasp of things. Definitely not as much public land as Idaho had, lots of reservations here that are not able to be accessed from what I understand.

    Both are a long ways for all of us. But mid december does not offer many options.

    That last Mohave trip was freeze our dicks off cold too. IIRC one over night was in the teens.

    Of the two places, I'd prefer to go back to DV. The last time was cut short. Like to see more of it.

    I'd like to go back to DV as well, I find the topography and attractions much more compelling than the Mojave

    I mean, it's sort of just luck of the draw as far as temps go that time of year. Could be really cold in DV too. But more lower options as far as elevations go, so we have as good a chance as any in DV.

    There's a reason DV is a NP and Mojave isn't...

    OK, so DV it is.

    Google says the most direct route for me is 954 miles. That is 16 hours and 28 minutes ATM. Winter travel times can only go up from there.

    It's long for all of us. Although considering I did 2500 miles in the last three weeks it doesn't seem too bad.

    Lava fire ran 11 miles on Sunday, hopefully we don't see that again. I think that came down to 2mph from the time it really took off.

    It's a good skill to have. Slight toe correction and you could've been fine without the shop. Plus, hopefully you were able to gain tire clearance by making adjustments that shops won't do.

    Does it pull to the left at all? It'll pull to the side with less caster, but that might be a good amount to compensate for road crown.

    Jealous. I need to get mine in, the eye-ball job Zane and I did got the truck down the road but it certainly needs a proper one. Being down to one vehicle makes it such a pain. Numbers looks great!

    Doesn't seem to pull left at all, at least so far. My steering wheel used to be canted left about 10° when I was going straight, and they got that fixed too, which was nice.

    Thanks! I was surprised how easy it was with a few pieces of wood, an angle guage, and 2 tape measures, to get everything dialed in nicely. I'll definitely be doing this before I take it in from now on, b/c it makes it much easier get a "dumb" alignment from Firestone, rather than hoping that they can deal with the SPC UCAs.

    @Digiratus - this was at the Renton Firestone where Oscar used to work. Alex was the tech, and seemed very knowledgeable. I probably could have had him mess with the UCAs, but I didn't want to risk it given a trip next week.

    Why would they ever need to touch the spcs? You should be able to set those yourself.

    An alignment is much like shooting your camera in Aperture priority. If YOU control some parameters, the camera will do the others to get the right exposure. So I set aperture and ISO and the camera will nail the shutter speed. But based on what I set the aperture and ISO, I can dictate the the shutter speed because I know the end exposure target is fixed. Same with the alignment, the exposure is the same as the alignment specs, a known finishing point. You can adjust the ISO (spc) and it'll end up where you want with them automatically adjusting the cams, aka the shutter speed. I would never want an alignment shop touching my spc, I set them where I know they need to be so that they can adjust the cams and nail the exposure with them alone.

    I had the ball joint cams set on the SPCs already, but I didn't have the camber dialed in because that's work and seemed easier for the guys at Firestone to do with their fancy machine than for me to do at home. I just put the "new" SPCs to the same camber position and snugged them up.

    Plus, for the last ~6 years, we've had alignment techs here who were actually good. They would reposition the SPC ball joint cams even, to max out caster, etc. as long as you asked beforehand. No more, unfortunately.

    I'm curious how you set the big top nut on the SPCs. Did you use an angle finder (what I did the second time) or just eyeball a guess (what I did the first time)?
