    I installed it when Steve was on the CO trip with us, and he had his SWR meter to measure it. I forget exactly what we cut off (about 1/2" as I recall), but I'm happy to measure what's left for you.

    Note: I have no idea if the cabling/transmitter/etc. that are connected to the antenna itself affect SWR, so my antenna length may or may not be what you need.

    I suspect that what is between the radio and the nmo base is not what is critical to swr. But I can't be certain of that. I did see where their spec sheet says it is setup for 139MHz.

    When you get a chance, it would be interesting to know what length yours is. Thx.

    If we ran our HAMs at 440 when we got into the hills we'd see an improvement as well. the shorter wave lengths bounce around the mountains better.

    Which to that point. That's why I don't see the point of most of us getting GMRS.

    I mean I'm fine with ditching the CBs but why get another UHF radio when we already have one...

    For me, it is all about having the ability to communicate with the folks in the group. Early in my wheeling career, that meant getting a CB because that is what the group was using. I never on my own would have gotten a Ham radio and license if it wasn't for what the group was using.

    This same thinking is what is driving going to gmrs for me.

    Of late, we have been splintered as a group when new guys join us in our adventures. We have made do with handhelds, but this is not an ideal situation because of their limitations. And some will never invest in a permanent Ham solution or get the licensing that one requires. And some have come to despise the limitations of the CB solution.

    A gmrs system is a compromise too from a cost perspective but it does require a license to be legal. Nonetheless, this seems more reasonable to me rather than insisting everyone get a Ham. I'll likely end up with one just to be able to stay in touch with the group as I feel this is the most important aspect when we are out on our adventures. That means discarding the CB system for me.

    Look what showed up today... 12" stroke. Mike @Digiratus - when you rebuilt yours, do you take the resi off before removing the end cap of the resi? Seems like the removal tool doesn't fit over the resi when it's so close to the shock body.

    None yet. I suspect there will be some soon. I'm thinking that Zane and Jayson to start. Big Dan is stuck on using a CB because that is what his buddies are using. Besides, I don't think we'll be seeing much of him in the short tern. He and Christine just had their 2nd son.

    I put a wink in there and everything, but I wasn't trying to twist your words at all; not sure why you're so offended. If you're not trying to get us to switch, cool. I guess we'll have some guys on hams and others on gmrs.

    BTW - if you were trying to convince, I don't think it's bad to try and convince everyone to move to GMRS (or Ham, or RR for that matter). There are lots of good reasons to do things.


    Thanks for that. Is your resi far enough from the shock body that you can get the wrench on the end cap (where the nitrogen goes in)? In the video, the end cap is off already.
