Millirem (mrem) is the correct unit for the US...more so the DoD and some of DoE. Sieverts are the unit the rest of the world uses lol. Anything under 1 Mr/hr is pretty much written off as "indistinguishable from background levels" for the Navy (and I'd assume most other US agencies but I only know navy for sure)

Still a cool place to have gotten to visit!

I figured someone smarter than me would chime in. I just read the signs  still it's similar to background levels for a one hour visit, a longer stay would obviously be more exposure.

On the way to Zanes, and then on the way home. 5th gear swap went off without a hitch I'd say. I can't say that my bed was the same way, but the bed definitely went back on in a much better state than it came off!

    Thanks Zane and Jayson!

Nice! Glad you got it to work - enjoy your new 6th gear. I’ll be curious to hear what your thoughts are driving up the pass or if it’ll be mainly for flat ground driving.

Awesome! Glad it worked. Now I need to do it to mine..

Yeah do you find yourself having to use 4th for most hills now? Or is the gearing still good enough?

You're sitting now right where torque lock up in the auto is. Which of course is pretty much only good for flat ground and mild inclines.

It'll be interesting what you experience. I assume this was done in an effort to improve fuel economy. I think the big question is if you are able to maintain speed in string headwinds and small inclines. If not and you find yourself going to 4th to do so, since you shifted the rpm out of the power band, it might be a wash.

I know you checked mpg, did it change?

There were only a couple times I needed to downshift on the way home, and not for very long. Obviously, for folks who generally travel at faster speeds - like in the 68-75mph range, that would be less of an issue.

My plan though, was that this was largely for flats - the long trips up/down to California.

Also - the shift keys - it was the long ones (the original ones you bought) that we needed to use. Was nice to have both Zane and I there, so we could talk through the entire setup together and bench assemble until we felt like it was good, before putting it into the truck. (which we did with the trans still installed).

Yeah, we'll see how it goes. Was really great on flats. I was telling Zane that I'm so used to the sound of the engine at 2750rpm that it sounded like I wasn't going fast enough with the new gear, and I often found myself going much faster since I was subconsciously driving by sound rather than speed.

Had a pretty good headwind last night and it wasn't an issue. Time will tell.

I didn't check mpg (in any measurable way) on the way home for two reasons:
    1. It's less than a tank of gas to get home (or, about a tank). You can never really tell on a single tank, though I do get a kick out of guys who are like, "look, I got 32mpg," and then you found out they drove 12 miles. hahaha.
    2. The first half of the way home, I was on fuel from the tank that got me there. I did fill up a couple hundred miles from home, so I'm now on the first full tank with the new gears. I'm planning to drive down to Vegas at the end of the month, so that'll be the real test. 3-4 tanks to get down there.

All that said, it looks to me - from the (oh-so-accurate ;) ) fuel gauge - like about 5-10% improvement. Ironically, I think I lost about the same amount with the new wheel/tire combo, and I don't have a ton of data with that combo, so knowing all this "for sure" is going to be a bit tough. This upcoming trip will be telling. Does make me wish I still had the old wheels/tires, though. Just to see.

Cool to hear. I suspect it'll be amazing for Frank. For my daily. Debatable given it's on 4.30s and 31s. Pretty cool!

Also I suspect not a massive change in mpg. It's below the engine peak torque and p no where near it's peak power anymore. So it'll work more under the load. But it'll still be better than doing 3000rpm. Hell I bet actually you'll see better mpg at faster speeds now. Whatever 2500ish rpm is now.

I mean it would be ideal if he got his old MPG moving at speeds people actually use on the highway. I'm still amazed he hasn't gotten road raged entirely off the road in California or Nevada or Arizona, I'm pretty sure you can still get the death penalty in two of those states for going under 70 on a highway

Yeah we can only hope that 75-80 will now be acceptable.

@Digiratus found a strong IPA but definitely not enough flavor for you, but the name alone was too funny not to share.

Yeah not bad, some quirks to work with but reasonably priced considering stock ones are in that 10-15k price range

yeah I think thats a decent price all things considered. Reinforce the frame and it'd probably tow as good as a tundra too.
