New column for the rear

 

Seems fine to me for a start. Think I have a bit more weight than you generally so could see a touch more compression and maybe one rebound shum going up but might as well wait to see how it feels.

 

Sorry to hear about the tree coming down Mike. Hope damage is minimal.

Power went out about 3 hours ago, PSE is reporting 362,000 people without power so it might be a while.

 

Powers out here too. Went out about 1:00 a.m. some reports are saying it might take days to get it back. Hopefully it's not that long.

 

Real caveman hours huh

 

The worst part is the lack of coffee. I can bundle up for the cold.

That's what I'm doing. Got to set up the inverter first on the batteries so I can use the grinder to grind some beans. Ha

 

Thank god for gas appliances. Fireplace going, hot water on tap, and made a hot breakfast. No gas powered coffee bean grinder though

 

Nice to finally see the backyard, wish it were under different circumstances! Two trees down, man, you lucked out with all that weight on the roof. Looks like they came down at the perfect angle.

 

Holy shit, wow, that'll be impressive if there's no damage.

 

it does look that way. I can't see any structural damage inside or out. But the weight of that tree is definitely on the roof.

Two trees at once, I feel like you got lucky. Probably won't know the extent of things until you get someone out to remove them from the roof.

One thing I noticed in the pictures is they did uproot, but the roots look small, or did they rot out and break at the base. I know you have lots of water in the ground back there that might be the issue? Probably should have an arborist out to check the health and stability of the other trees nearby.

 

it's actually one tree that has two main trunks. The ground is very saturated we've had a lot of rain lately so I'm sure that is a contributing factor too. And I also read that the wind was from the east mostly and the trees are used to and reinforce themselves against the southwesterly wind which is normal for us so that probably contributed too. Ann arborist will be out this afternoon to see what's going on and give me some estimates.

 

The definitely fell in a westward direction so the eastern wind is probably correct. I'm sure the arborists are pretty swamped, hopefully it's good news.

 

Welp hope all is well and nothing punctured the roof. Probably will need new shingles no matter what.

 

from what I can see, The roof might have survived. But I haven't been up into the crawl space so we'll see once the tree is removed.

 

You should see if you can have them cut and split it when they remove the tree(s).

 

Seems like a fair trade. Try to ruin your house. Become firewood.
