Seems to me that we need a trip on the books for this spring. April or May? Where do you fools want to go?

 

Yeah gas! Was one of the reasons why we liked the property. Natural Gas and has "water system" which didn't pan out for us. Not yet anyways. But hope to hook into it at some point. Hauling water has not been that big a deal though. I just wish I could do more in a trip than 150-200gal.

Sure. Lets plan something. I have to replace my LBJs and OTRE is all. Only have to the tie rods because they are fused into the LBJs somehow. Whatever. Probably be my last season on these tires too. Can't remember when I got them but they have lasted a decent amount of time. Granted I don't daily Igor so..who knows.

Utah seems to be the spot to aim for for weather and not too far for everyone to drive? Maybe? Idk. We have done a lot of UT wheeling in the years. Still things to see though. I'm open to other things.

 

My truck is now at the shop so we will see if it needs tie rods after its stint with 35's... but the alignment is pretty screwed. Doesnt help we have speed humps on the way to work and i try to get air most days. and launch it off the curb at work every single day... Buuuuuuuuuut i might be vanning it come spring, its complicated....

Capitol Reef is on my radar again. Even though ill be in UT this next weekend, i am always down for another trip to the red dirt.

 

Yeah haven't done a tone in Reef. We have been through it a few times and some cool back roads. Hikes there are supposed to be cool. The damn Henry's would be there..taunting me..again..Surely be unpassable though in spring.

Henrys gonna be july/ Aug, which i am all in for. April/May limits us. North rim is a no go according to Mike. But there are plenty of things to see even if they arent brand new to us. the list of new things is getting smaller each year so bound to be some repeats lol

What does my lease have to do with this?

ok ill expand.
1. ill have my apt
2. ill likely have my gf with me and not ready to make her ground tent it, nor do i think ill have the funds for the setup ( stove, matress, cookware)
3. the truck is fine around town but i dont have confidence in it being far off the beatin path
4. the suspension SUCKS and I'm not sure it wont ruin my back in its current configuration.

So spring will likely be a van trip.

 

Planning a trip to Utah in the spring is a great idea.

 

Capitol reef isnt a week long trip, so let me find more to add. i think the big picture is Utah in April/May. Does anyone here have a preference on month? Or we can be in the vacinity, i would prefer a dog friendly trip to be honest.

 

Just found at a nice camp site in the AZ strip, which is pretty close to UT. Plenty of room for more trucks... Would love to do the Reef too, haven't spent much time there at all.

This looks like a spot I saw in a YT vid. The story til now guy did it. They didn't say it specifically, but I got the impression their route went along the south rim.

Capitol Reef and Escalante could be cool. I've wanted to go back to the slot canyons there. Maze is also an option. But I agree, dogs would be great for obvious reasons.

The truck will happen eventually dont worry. But right not my eggs are in on basket. Slot canyons.... you have my interest.

Based on the docs i got from the NPS though, 21ft length is a limit they are enforcing in the Maze and needles district. Im paying this weekend for someone to watch the apt and dog...but i know my ol' girl loves our adventures so the best we can keep it on friendly land the better.

 

As much as I love the Maze, it isn't the right choice for other reasons as well. That reservation system limits the number of rigs to 3.

 

Well, if you go around on highways, the maps tell me it's 300 miles. Dirt up through Grand Staircase / Escalante would be shorter. Not saying we have to do it on this trip.

Huh, nice. I was working my way from Toroweap east for a few days, checking out a bunch of rock art along the way, and that was the last site I camped at. Was definitely a nice one. Sounds like they were on the AZBDR and couldn't get to the even nicer spot on Navajo Nation land. This spot wasn't on the BDR, but it's not far off the tail end of the route (probably about 30 miles off?)

Remember this view Mike and Monte? My first rock art hike was that one we skipped (if you recall that) there on the cutoff between Whitmore and Toroweap.

 

Took me a minute but pretty sure i found the spot. Sign me up, otherwise ill find that on my own

 

I assure you that it is easier to find on G maps than it is in the dark, hahahaha.

I'm sure you found it, there aren't a lot of spots like that. If you haven't been to Whitmore and Toroweap, I'd recommend them all as three nights on a trip. Only Toroweap requires a permit, and it's only like $8/night.

 

I am trying to be coy since this is public but i assume those are all in the same route?
It was easy to match the shadows and landmarks to that spot in the video. one of my favorite things to do top match that shit to their videos
