I'll just keep my eye out for something I can easily modify. Once the kids are a little more self sufficient I'll prob build my own if I haven't found one by then

So does May 3-11 with for y'all for a trip in and around capital reef? Just thinking out loud, a couple days in capital reef, then there's a spot by swing arm I want to see, and then south to bears ears, do some hiking, ruin finding, and maybe valley of the gods, something like that?

    Spot by swing arm City:

I'd be interested, haven't been there really. Is this a dog friendly place?

Good point. CRNP might be like CNP which isn't. I'll take a look and make sure because I know that's a caveat for us.
You think pulling it back into April would be better? I know last year we were at the swell at the end of March and it was definitely on the cooler side.

Here's Capital Reefs webpage on pets.
    https://www.nps.gov/care/planyourvisit/pets.htm

As I read it, they are allowed in campgrounds, within 50ft of paved/dirt roads, and must be leashed and cleaned up after. So I would say with how we travel that it is dog friendly. And the moon overlook is BLM. Certainly just throwing some ideas out there, and seeing what we can put together for a week. Out there.

March that year was chilly at times. April might be better? Can't be worse haha

yeah depends on what you want to do there. We've driven a few routes that go through it. But we've never really camped there. Also can't take them on the hikes.

Early May is the perfect time of year for that area IMO.

Early May looks like t-shirt weather during the day. I'd be ok with that. Looks like overnight temps are still in the 40s for that week.

April/may seems to be ideal, but also that means more traffic. When I was there before we stayed in two of the campgrounds and had them all to ourselves in April. So who knows what it would be like this time around. I still would like to revisit that area at some point. Not aware of any of the hikes there either.

I mean we could focus more on stuff south of there, I know there's some interesting stuff near Hite, like Jacobs chair, Good Hope Bay, Fry Canyon, bears ears, or VoTG's. There's a ton of choice. I'm up in the air on the van or the truck, would need to buy all new kit for cooking in the truck, be limited to a cooler and probably ground tenting it, no sliders, no skids etc Would prefer to take the van.
Now that would be a lot of fun! I won't turn down a good slot canyon.

We tried the slots the time we were there. Too much rain and water though. Was cool though.

Obviously the advantage of the truck regardless of the lack of sliders(which for all this stuff we are talking about is not a bit deal, none of it needs armor) is speed of travel. Which would allow for a larger area to be explored. I'm of course pro truck haha

Lots of hikes in the area some more well known than others. There are roads through it, we drove Bull frog and Wolverine as well as south draw. Which are the "extreme 4wd roads" in the area. I remember absolutely nothing being extreme about it or even rough hardly. Most excitement we had in that area was the extreme mud upon our return heading north which was awful. And crossing a wash that we shouldn't have as it was raging.

    That's about it.

If you look at the area in Gaia you'll see the hiking trails everywhere. But again, no dogs on those. There is cool stuff there though for sure.

Best slot canyons are south of Escalante. So further west than Capitol reef and south.

Speed maybe, but probably not by much with its current setup being back breaking. And that I'll be on P rated tires. Really it'll be smaller and more capable but I don't know if we would pick up much speed. Ground tenting sounds horrible. It made more sense with the truck as I was thinking I would be solo

I'm not sure how much hiking you are wanting to do. I figure some short hikes but nothing too crazy, I know not everyone in the group hikes.

Snow has been nuts this year. Thank go for this plow.

Had to chain up today to get through the yard to the horse water tank. 2.5' at least of snow. Maybe more.
