Petroglyphs, Dunes, and Volcanoes (Oh My!)
    When
    Sun, July 6, 8am – 5pm
    Where
Meet ten miles north of Rock Springs (29 miles south of Farson) on US 191, at the intersection of the Highway and Sweetwater County 17 (map)
    Description
North of Rock Springs, Boar's Tusk demands attention. But did you know this volcanic plug is not alone, but has a family of other volcanic features in the area? White Mountain Petroglyphs is becoming easier to access, but aren't the only examples of beautiful rock art in the landscape. Join Red Desert expert John Mionczynski and Wyoming Outdoor Council staff in this tour of White Mountain, Killpecker Sand Dunes, and Cedar Canyon--where we get off the beaten track and spend some time with the features of the northern Red Desert.

The Outdoor Council recommends bringing appropriate outdoor gear including: hiking poles, one gallon of water per person, plenty of snacks and a full sack lunch, rain gear and clothing layers, and sun protection. Don't forget the camera and binoculars! Drive a high-clearance vehicle equipped with a full tank of gas, spare tire, and the tools and knowledge necessary to change a tire. Cell service is sporadic and cannot be counted upon in the desert.

This adventure is designed for a variety of ability levels and will not include strenuous hikes. We will walk over uneven terrain, at an easy pace, for a short distances.

We will meet ten miles north of Rock Springs (29 miles south of Farson) on US 191, at the intersection of the Highway and Sweetwater County 17.
