! right ! There's a few other vids of that truck testing worth drooling over... An 8 to 1 header collector setup is so sick, pretty rare too. I say you get yourself a v8 Jon and do the same :D At some point.....at least get the thing rolling first with the 4 banger

Pretty sure I'll stick with the 3RZ on this build, in part to keep weight and fuel consumption down. If I build it right, should be plenty of power. If not, I'd seriously consider a 2JZ or 1UZ swap.

Lol dude if you build your 3rz like that. Your kid won't have a college fund and it'll get 10mpg anyways haha

Gives new meaning to 'gotta pay to play'. Just like MPGs, the concern over costs associated with builds like this goes out the window.

Ha. Go look how "easy" that swap is. You'll need a 1-2" body lift to clear any exhaust work. What made me say fuck it to a 2/3uzfe. I6 has the exhaust on the passenger side. Just like ours.

Plus I don't think torque is much different. I6 motors have amazing torque.

I've seen so many people on quests to make their stock motor do the max when an easy bolt in bigger/different motor would be an easier more workable platform for their needs to achieve what they are going for. If you really want the "work with what it came with" style then more power to you! It really is all about what "you" want. If I was doing what you are John then i'd be looking for what can I stuff in the monster i'm building and a big inline 6 would be my choice. Sure a v8 would be sweet but they can be heavy and less bolt in. Just try and visualize the cost of getting your motor to the point you want and it's reliability since pushing a block and it's parts past what it was designed for gets really expensive. That's where a different motor can help cut costs in the long run.

I'm not trying to max out the stock motor, just trying to get it to do more than the laughable 150hp it makes already. Is the 2JZ pretty much plug-n-play like you guys say, or do you need to change out all the wiring, transmission, etc as well?

It bolts to my 5speed. The r151. Shares the bell housing as the r154 5 speed supras come with.

    Need new motor mounts.

There is a place that makes a plug and ply harness for tacomas and 2jz. It's 1200 bucks though. Haha

Wiring wouldn't be too bad though. Easier then your current dismantled wiring haha

No doubt John, get er running and worry about go juice as you can afford. All i was saying is try not to spend too much on a motor that cant' reliably propel you into the future. With a new motor you need to worry about a supportive brain (ECU) and trans/drivetrain that can handle the hp/torque. You're axles will be fine

You will just need an adapter plate to get the 2jz to mate with the stock trans as I have read... and as long as you are easy on the cheeze pedal you should be fine with your current trans and stuffs. At some point you'll want to update.

Edit: caution, i'm very noob with swaps and i deferr to monte on the issue. My only motor pull and play has been with an evo and then back into an evo...never a different motor into a chassis that it wasnt mated with from the beginning.
