I got a question for you guys since I don't know much about 1st gens. My parents found a basically stock 2003 double cab TRD Offroad, 131,000 miles and they are asking $13,500 for it which is what KBB prices it at and NADA prices it at $14,600. Looking at the pics, it looks like it's in great shape. Is that a jump on it price or should he be talked down a bit?

 

Well im currently rocking the broke down club as well. Had to do an emergency parts run during harvest this weekend. Ran 90+ gravel roads to get there in time. Picked up parts was almost out of gas. Had my jerry can in bed. Filled up with the 5 gallons. Drove home and the surging started. Afr bounces from 13.5-17.5 almost every 1 second. While maintaining 60mph. Reset ecu, nothing. Drove another 20 miles, thought it was the gas. Pulled a fuel line, jumped the fuel pump ecu in gas station lot and drained the tank to E. Fueled full of good gas and problem still persists. I sent a data log to Gadget on tuesday, still waiting to hear back from him. All the while i still throw p2121 and p2122 cel codes. That is throttle position sensor issue. I swapped complete assemblies and still same issue Prior to the surging. I'm thinking this may all be ecu or the piggyback.

 

1st gen ftw. I'd go for it. Of course I'd try to negotiate a bit but overall it sounds like a nice truck.

 

In California for a California rust-free truck you'll see $2k over KBB. I looked at an 04 with 150k asking $16k.

This said, consider alternatives. All DCs are AT, and the AT cuts the nuts clean off the 3.4 in my experience. This (and the short bed) are what drove me to 2nd gen when I had to go DC.

Is the truck for them, and if so, how would they use it and do they drive in mountains or haul? It will last until 300k miles.

You might try to find some liquid electrical tape to help seal up that wire before you wrap it with electric tape.

 

I use it at work from time to time. Pretty handy stuff. Works good in tight areas where you can't get heatshrink tubing
