Monte @Blackdawg I found more haul ass roads!!! Picture later. On south pass down a power line. Saw some elk through the binocs too and a few sage grouse but no hun (gray) partridge we were hunting.

Looks nice Ben! I need to get out camping at least once more this fall!

    Edit: here's the road

It's an 05 pontiac grand am that was babied until it was tboned. The guy changed oil ever 2k with synthetic, air filter every other oil change, and fuel filter every 4th. The engine will be pulled and dropped in our caged lemons car. I only paid 200 for the car and drove it 30 miles home.

Well, the truck went into the dealer today. Everything so far has been smooth. Upfront cost is a minimum of $110. This gives them an hour to diagnose what is wrong and decide how they want to proceed. Hopefully I can get everything sorted out and the truck running smooth again.

That shuttering sound I mentioned awhile ago is coming somewhere under the hood. I "fixed" it when I changed the oil early and noticed I lost a lot of oil. With new oil the truck runs smooth with no noise. After a round trip from Laramie to Sheridan the noise would return. I added oil one trip without fully changing it and the noise again went away for a bit. Occasionally when starting the truck after it has sat for a few hours I will get a loud grinding noise directly after the engine turns over.

I also keep throwing my check engine light. P0101, indicating a Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Range/Performance Problem. I cleaned my MAF Sensor and replaced my PCV valve but still threw the code. I am guessing my valve guide seals may be bad already? Hard to believe with the truck barely having just under 50,000 miles on it.

Noise after starting sounds like starter hanging up.
Low oil will make an engine noisier.
Are you lacking on power more so than normal?
    Metal chunks/shavings/filings on drain plug?
Was your oil sparkly with metal when changed?
Did you pull the plugs checking for excessive fouling on one or multiple cylinders?
    Oil in coolant?

I figured it may be the starter but never heard them grind in person. I am lacking power in lower rpms. No metal chunks that I know of and I have not messed with the plugs yet.

Toyota called, they said my MAF is reading wrong and they want me to get a new one. I told them to wait on that until I find out the real issue. They told me they had to put in 4 quarts of oil. That's probably within 1300 miles since my last oil change :frusty:. So it is burning oil pretty good. They said they wanted to top it off, put on a new pcv valve and run it for 400 miles to see how much is burning. I explained that I had recently put on a new PCV valve from them and now they want me to just drive it 100 miles to see how much oil is burned. No word on warranty yet but when I pick up the truck I will ask.

Wow. I'm worried a piston ring is going out. Or already did. A bad MAF would not make the truck burn oil. And that is a lot of oil.

No evidence that it's just spilling out either? Not a front or rear main seal?

Saw a 4 door 325ix today in traffic. Caught my attention due to the fender flares and the sound it made. Had a baby seat in the back haha. Looked it up and man, what a cool car it must be to own. Super rare. an AWD 325i basically..Never knew how small they really where. I bet it's a hoot to drive. Just maybe not in traffic.
