Working on deciding the details of my rear bumper... Going pelfreybilt. Rear swing. Trying to decide if i want standard or hc. I dont think the approach angles of the hc are even worth it. Also color. Front bumper is white. If i went rear white i feel it would look douchy. Maybe black bumper and white swing? Or all black Because i have a matching white wheel on the rear swing. Thoughts? Also LT +2" has already been ordered so i might be able to get a little more lift height for better clearance.

Got the exhaust on today. Went 3" from the headers back with a 18" magnaflow muffler. Little louder than I hoped when I get on it hard but otherwise it's got a nice low tone to it.

Why don't you leave the tube flush with the fender?

Well silly me was hoping that pointing it slightly back and away from the truck would make it quieter in the cab. Which it may be doing for all I know but it still drones under load which I'm disappointed in.

    You make it home @SconnieHailer?

Yea that's why mine is piped out back still. No drone in cab hardly compared to how loud it is outside. Mines a 14" magnaflow.

But most I've seen that di side exit like that use an aluminum ring and flush with the fender. Figure that way you don't touch it possibly haha

I plan on doing the ring with pop rivets, I just didn't make it that far today. I would of gone out the back but my extra fuel tank is back there and I didn't feel like mounting heat shields. And I like doing things that I don't see everyday. I really thought 3" all the way with a bigger muffler would do it for keeping it quiet. Might have to go with a 24". Going to run it for a month or two and see how much it will annoy me. How's Powell treating you?

Sweet! Red lodge is fun, haven't been there since I was a kid though. I put a 42 gal suburban gas tank where the spare tire was lol. I have a thread on here showing it. Its under 1st gen suburban gas tank install. I'd link it for you but I'm on my 1st gen iPad and well it sucks for anything other than browsing and typing. It's way out of date.

Any large exhaust is going to be loud. The reason mufflers and stuff work is because it they are by design restrictive to a point to inhibit sound waves reflecting

Yeah I'm a traveling gas station pretty much lol

Good to know. I was thinking opposite. If I stayed small it would be high pitched and loud. If I went larger it would be a lower tone and thus be not as loud.

Lower tone/pitches have bigger wave lengths with travel further and "through" things much easier. Much easier to quiet down higher pitches then low ones.

The larger tubing also allows for bigger and lower standing waves too. Thus louder and more resonance of the lower times. Which bleed into the cab a lot more and even worse since its exiting right by the cab.

Do you really fill it up that much? That's a ton of weight.

What I can't understand is why an aftermarket fuel tank company hasn't come out with a tank made specifically for Tacoma's that fits where the spare tire goes. Considering how many of these trucks are off-roaded, modified and have different wheels and spare tire locations it would seem to be a "no-brainer' to me.
As far as exhaust is concerned? When I have to replace mine I'm just going to re do it the exact same way it came from the factory. From what I have read unless I just want a different sound there is no other reason to change the exhaust system because there are no performance gains to be had with a 2.7 from doing so.

Interesting. I kind of feel like either I live with the sound and enjoy the boost in performance or restrict the SC for peace and quiet. Maybe there is a happy medium :notsure:. Yeah I fill it up. I think it's 380lbs

I think there was one but they no longer produce them. I remember searching for one before I did the suburban tank. I think it replaced the existing tank and held more fuel though.

Was a company that did that for a while for 1st gens. But cost 900 buck haha

Mine is sorta routed like stock. Just over the leafs instead of under and tucked up higher. Works awesome.

Jesus haha what kinda leafs do you have?

Yea pretty much. Also depends on the rig use I think. If it's just a rig, like mine, let er rip! If it's a dd and you drive the why a lot..Id just get a bigger muffler.

the side exit isn't helping though. Haha

I really don't see where $900 is out of line for a custom tank like that. I'd pay it for the extra fuel capacity if I needed it. Not that I'm rich but nothing worth having is cheap these days. Just take a look at the transfer flow products and prices. If I needed extra fuel capacity like that I'd just save up and get it.

Yea just not enough demand. I wouldn't pay for that. Only ever needed a 5 gal Jerry can once. And that was it. Cheaper to get Jerry cans.

You're right. Demand is the key. I, myself like having extra gas at all times. You just never know but for my purposes I can't see needing any extra at this point in time and as you say, how often is a Jerry can even needed. Seriously way off the beaten path expedition type usage of the vehicle is really the only reason anyone would need that much extra fuel. Or for the average guy who doesn't want to pay a huge amount per gallon if they have to buy gas out in the middle of nowhere and there is only one station who can charge whatever they want. Like in Well's, NV 100 miles from nowhere. Proper planning can prevent a problem like that though under normal circumstances.

Yea I mean I had 15 gal in Jerry cans once. Was pointless. Now just have one can on the bumper all the time. Handy to have for sure. But usually 5 gals even at 10mpg is still 50 miles and gas is pretty easy to find around here.
