Crimping is the typical approved technique for large wire. It remains flexible at the end and no worries of brittle solder (that and unless you use a blow torch, itd be hard to get the wire hot enough to accept the solder)

 

Crimping is actually better. If done right.

Not to sure about his crimping method but the rest of it is reasonable and quite similar to what I've done in the past with 4 ga wire.

It was my impression that larger gauge wire should be crimped with a crimper that compresses evenly, all the way around the terminal and the wire. Essentially compressing/compacting the wire to eliminate all air gaps in the process.

To do this a crimping tool like this is used.

Hey guys, got a question. So the runner wouldn't start, after it had just been running, and it seemed like both my batteries were dead. So I hooked up a jumper, jumped it and it started right up. Except now it's reading a P0340 and P0345, cam sensor module problems, and the VCS TRAC and VCS OFF lights are both on now. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Lol @Blackdawg. $250 is nothing compared to what you are willing to drop on your truck. It's a crappy expense but at least it goes towards a hobby. Rice and beans ain't all that bad.

 

Well. Only because there is pretty much nothing on the truck I want that cost less than 400 at this point..

But still. A lot. Considering I could get a used body for 500 as it is.

I'll pay for it. I miss it. Really missed it over Xmas.

 

If you are talking about a used 60D, there is no guarantee it wont develop the same trouble you had with yours. I only hope that the repair is an actual improvement in durability. Didn't you say the SD reader in those was a common point of failure?

 

I haven't touched it since last weekend. I was in Denver area most of the week and today I was busy with the pup/shooting a few photos (the ones below). I really want to get a bottle and be done with flux core (even though i've got alot of practicing to do with it) so i've kind of been putting off playing with it more until i get one. Also i need a better mask, i can hardly see wtf i'm doing haha. Can you weld with straight co2? Or do you really need that 75-25 mixture?

I want to sketch up a plan for building a cart for the welder too. I think that will be a good first project to weld on. Then this summer I want to tackle a trailer build! If all goes well i'll probably build to sell since im not too keen on wheeling with one unless its got an rtt on it and we're just doing easy trails.

Yea needs a whole new one like whole chunk of pcb re soldered in.

Yea it's a common issue. Only way around it is to switch to micro sd cards and leave the adapter in all the time.

Yea you can weld with pure co2. I think it's just not quiet as clean but still totally can.
