Any chance one the wyo guys in here can help pull/work on my engine? Ill buy beer and grub! I don't want to try and attempt this project on my own if I don't have to. My garage is not the best place so if someone knows of shop I would be happy to travel as far as my truck allows. I am willing to pay for the space needed. I think we could knock this out in a weekend or two and my GF is being awesome and will be willing to drive me back and forth.

read up in his build page. guzzling oil and dealer told him no warranty bc his air intake was dirty from his 35s.

 

I know it was burning oil but didn't know he's at the point of pulling entire engine.

 

cant drive very far and got some knocking and no reliability. Not really a diagnosis yet either from what i saw

I have a cherry picker and can have shop space available if needed.

We have pinpointed the main problem to be my 4th piston ring is leaking. There may be more but who knows. The knocking sound was from low oil before I knew I was burning oil that fast. No problem now. I had an engine misfire from a oil fouled spark plug but quickly shut the truck down and all seems well.

@FreidTaco are you talking about your place in Nebraska? How far is that? I would be happy to do it there if I can make it. Truck ran fine to Cheyenne so I dont see why I couldn't.

 

Seriously? I know that dealerships can do some shady stuff but thats wild.

Gonna assume a compression test helped yall figure out it was the piston ring?

 

Yeah, 120 in the first 3 and 90 in the 4th. A cap full of oil brought it up some...not to 120 but around 105-110. This was on a cold engine too.

 

I don't understand what happened? Is toyota saying dirt/debris got past the air filter and into the intake and eventually to #4 cylinder and that debris caused the damage to the piston ring?

 

Essentially...yes. I can either take legal action or let them open it up and find out for themselves. Both of which are costly.

 

I did decide to at least put pressure on toyota until I get all my ducks in a row to do this repair myself. I contacted regional who told me to contact the toyota hotline first and they will be contacted to make things start moving. Ill call them up after the gym and I have cooled down about the topic .

 

ya then a ton of people were talking shit on him like it was all his fault, which partly yes. The guy in the jeep had a warrant for his arrest and no insurance and a suspended license and he parked it in the middle of the whoops section. lol some good drama.

 

No shit, huh? That's pretty weird, wonder if insurance and such is in full play in places like that or if you technically forgo parts of your insurance contract when you take on "dangerous" activities. My insurance covers absolutely jack shit so I know I'd be boned. These guys have a story posted anywhere?

 

I'm willing to bet that alcohol was involved.

 

If your truck has less that 60K on the ODO, I would think Toyota could repair it under the drivetrain warranty regardless of how someone feels the damage may have ocurred.
