Dude its so easy to get your tech.

 

Its more about finding the time to do it than the material. I have classes 9-5 most days. Then fisheries meetings 6-7 on Tuesdays. Unsure of the class schedule.

 

Oh gotcha. Really, just sign up for Hamtestonline if you really want it. 20 bucks for a year. Then just study when you can. Be ready to take the test in a month probably. Depending on how good you are at electronics as it is. Which you just need to know super basic stuff.

 

Yeah, maybe ill do it over the summer if it doesn't work out.

 

@BabyTaco I gotta agree with Monte on this one. Using Hamtestonline made it much easier to get ready for the test. Very convenient to use. It was $25 tho for a 2 year license, not $20.

 

Does anybody around here run Ham in their rigs, or mostly CB?

Lovely weather we're having around here, w're headed into town tonight to have my frame inspected. We should try and meet up one of these days for a meal or to play in the snow!

 

Mostly CB. I think the only ham guys in this thread in wyo is Monte and his father. Maybe @SconnieHailer? Can't remember.

 

I do both. Digital HAM and Analog aprs and CB.

Fixing to change the aprs setup soon.

My dad does too. He is the HAM nut. Has his own repeater and everything KG7PRH

 

Marc doesn't...yet.

Mike and BEn have their Techs. They don't really use it much i think though.

Pretty sure Ben does not have his technician license. I don't think he ever took the test.

I'll have to do some more research on it. It seems like the added range would be nice, especially in an emergency type situation. I had to google APRS, but that seems like a pretty cool idea especially for remote excursions!

In the mean time I'll have to get my cb installed. I was thinking about trying to use a firestik and a splitter in the factory antenna position, but it doesn't look like there is a very good way to do that. Looks like I'll be ordering the relentless hood mount. @SconnieHailer does yours ever bother you while daily driving? It looks like it would be over in the field of view a bit.

 

Yea APRS/DPRS is pretty cool. My Dad was able to track me the whole time on our last trip. And i can "text" him through it as well. Some apps let you email through APRS too. You can even send photos. Thats why i run it. Just in case you're out of cell range, which is often for me on trips.

 

Never notice it. You might at first but I forget it's there anymore

 

Hey question for you fellas. Who do most of you use for insurance? I have to switch provider since im here in Wyo, and not sure who has the best service if i need it down here.

 

I use USAA but I am guessing you can't get it. My dad switched from USAA to State Farm because it was cheaper for vehicles/house together through them. I have had to use them a few times during highschool and the service was good/quick.

 

I had Farmers in montana and they were always good to me when I did have to use them. Guess I'll just make the rounds on quotes and hopefully get some info from locals on who is good once this snow finally quits.

 

Talking to the locals would be your best bet. What works in here in Laramie or Sheridan might not be that great in Casper.

 

All I remember about that evening was the beautiful sunset and that is was windy as hell.

Get that license done buddy. Its not really that hard if I can do it.
