Not sure if this is much help for comparison. I lost track of the options discussed.

I like how much advice you all have for Ben, you guys all sound like a bunch of nagging wives. Sometimes you gotta just set back and watch the world burn......Or let ben do it on his own!

I have pulled and installed five thirds on my truck, and with original everything except the thirds, have never leaked a drop of oil. My elocker has always worked perfectly.

Is Cody the guy behind this LROR video?
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVQHgcXEhpE

If so, you might question why you value his mechanical opinion

Like anything, there are correct and incorrect methods. You follow the incorrect procedure outlined on this site for pulling thirds, and it wouldn't surprise me that one might have issues.

And, as I have said before, it would be a worthwhile exercise for Mr. Mike to start by checking for axle straightness (stick a correctly-machined rod through the housing).

EDIT: You should also check the axle shaft for straightness, as well as twisting on the splines themselves.

    It doesn't.

Take this approach and you'll still get grief for not "participating"

There's a distinct lack of drunken mistypes. So yeah all in all even better than usual.

Yup I'll be there, weather supposed to be shitty but hopefully I can lay a coat of bedline well enough. Ben will have to get the garage nice and toasty after we finish grinding the shit outta bumpers.

So, what's the 'correct' procedure for swapping thirds as I'll be doing it shortly. I helped @Wishbone Runner swap his in the dirt in Moab, complete with sand, dust, dirt, biting gnats, and a piece of wood as a jackstand and he hasn't had any issues. No e-locker though.

The elocker has a clocking spring from setting its backlash. You just ratchet it over till it's right and then suck it down.

Vs on the 8.4" you need shims and have to remove the carrier every time. Plus none of the whims come with an install kit so you have to order them after the fact or have em all before you start. Pita.

    5. Damn. What have you been doing to diffs in your absence haha

I'm not saying I agree with the whole thing. I was just explaining why Mike has been skeptical. There are plenty of people here who have regeared with no problems ever. That said. You are probably right that the next place to look is the axle housing and shafts. But man. Id be amazed if he bent though but it's not out of the question at this point.

Wasnt aware there was a correct way vs a wrong way. Drain oil. Disconnect the drive shaft. Undo the drums from the axle and pull the shafts out of the third. Undo the third bolts and your done..

After those two posts I rescind my previous comment about Ben making fun of your typing. I clearly see now he has every right to do so.

Fucking gf is absorbing all my time lately. I really need to finish my LT. Driver side is at 92% done. Passenger is at 0%.

Also need to put some preload on the coils. Currently driver side sits lower compared to previous setup on passenger side.

What coils do you have? If they are 600s, judging but the preload on them now, you'll need a lot to get it to 2-3''
