Some of those sensors seem to just be more sensitive than others.

Try the middle position first and also yes make sure it is level as well. Putting back vinyl in-front of the shield will make it harder for the sensor to work because the radar has to pass through more material.

If I continue to keep manufacturing the grilles in the future I might make a thinner acrylic shield for these as I think it would help but the last acrylic shop that cut these for me said this was the thinnest material they had.

If it continues to give you trouble for the time being you might be able to find some super thin acrylic at a plastic supplier around you or even somewhere online and just make your own. Acrylic is pretty cheap for a piece that size and easy to work with.

Right now is actually a good time to buy if you are thinking about this grille as I have recently lowered the standard price of the grille for both models.

I'm not sure if I am going to continue to manufacture the grilles in the future or not so I don't plan on doing any other sales in the foreseeable future as I have a limited number of grilles in stock.

So if you are thinking about getting a grille now might be a good time before I run out.

Even if I do decide and do another batch if I run out it could be sometime before I stalk up again.

Personally I wouldn't recommend going thinner. Your stuff works. I tried running 1.0 mm sheet for a while. There's no difference in how well the sensor sees between yours and the thinner sheet, oddly. And my thin sheet only lasted me for a few months before I cracked it on the trail.

I think the big thing that keeps tripping mine was not the added thickness, but an imperfect surface. Blacking out introduces imperfection. It's weird. The sensor can see perfectly fine, but if there is a little wrinkle or speck that sits in the exact same spot day after day, it wigs out and shuts down.

But between your shield, your shield plus my vinyl, and my thin shield plus my vinyl, the sensor could detect a car through all three setups under multiple weather conditions, at the same distances (as evidenced by dash indicators in cruise mode). After going through a trial and error phase, I found that the more meticulous I was about installing vinyl, the fewer codes the truck would throw. It's all about keeping it dust free during the wrapping.

So, from the loudest guy on here, what you are making is wonderful as-is. Don't change it just because I can't stop fucking with it. :cookiemonster::cookiemonster:

@watkins303 thanks for hooking me up and shipping to Alaska. Still some tweaking to do on light placement but the xtrek looks great.

That looks great! Did you have the light installed with the previous grille?

Previously I just had the white lightbar in the lower grille slot. I used the SDHQ mount with additional brackets to move it up top. I added the SS3 pods in the bumper and the amber lightbar below at the same time.

I’m really considering this grille and have the Caliraised behind the grille light. I’m wondering if that would still be functional. I’m assuming so.

I can measure the openings if you want. This is the DD ss30 which is pretty slim, the lense itself is only 1" or so tall.

I get an error immediately on startup. When you say fiddle with it, are suggesting changing the level of the sensor or ?

Level/square is interesting because there is no reference point, i.e, level to what on the vehicle?

Not sure yet how I can use the upper/lower mounting holes and not have the mesh interfere with it.

Just looking for ideas that have worked for you. Thanks!

To clarify, what error are you getting that immediately shows up at engine start? My error codes ( either "PCS sensor dirty" or "TSS unavailable") would only show up after 3 - 5 miles of driving. If its erroring immediately I think its something different than alignment. Maybe double-check both plug connectors (at the sensor and at the top of the grille bracket).

But to answer your questions, by level, I meant square with the grill or radiator. Theres a tiny amount of play when loosening and tightening bolts that can skew it if someone like myself wasn't paying attention. :anonymous:

So if you have a 2019 tacoma currenty with a Pro Grill, do you need to buy the trim piece for the grill or no? Assuming this still works fine/mounts up fine with TSS

For a persistent sensor dirty code, try unhooking your battery for five minutes. Its done that on me once where it got stubborn and would continue through an engine shut down. When the weather is clear, take it for a decent drive, a good 10 miles in traffic will help it figure itself out.

Yes and yes. You would need the bezel trim, and the TSS version works with TSS.

    Nice. I like this idea.

    TBD.
