I'd say black, because it's more subdued and less showy. Guns aren't for aesthetics AS MUCH as their functionality. ;)

Look at the S.A. 1911's before you buy the XP. Look at the TRP Series or Operator. Once you fire one, you'll never want another gun. Don't get me wrong, the S.A. XP is a great weapon system and I have friends that carry it on duty. But for accuracy, speed, and trigger pull.....1911 hands down. I have carried, H&K's, Glocks and Berretta's on-duty. Once we were allowed to carry a 1911, I will never carry anything else. Beware.....the 1911 will become an addiction like this website.

The XD45 compact has a full length magazine and a shorter compact magazine for concealed carry.

SA XD. ;) As nice as the 1911 is, it doesn't hold a candle to the XD's capacity.

I have a Bi-Tone 45, it was my first gun so I wanted something different besides a straight black gun. If I did it all over again I wouldn't change, the Bi-tone looks sweet!

honestly ive fired a few 1911s and compared to the XD they werent very comfortable in my hand. the other thing that i prefer with the XD is the larger magazine capacity. but don't get me wrong, the 1911 is a classic and shoots very well, but it just doesnt feel right to me

Check out the XDM's, they're awesome! But they only come in .40 or 9mm, for now. I got the bi-tone .40, its not a .45, but its also not a 9mm. And the 16+1 sure beats any other .40 out there!

Very nice. A guy at work let me borrow his XD .40 subcompact, same color scheme. I've never shot a glock, but everybody's said the grip is better. If I like shooting this one, thats what I'm gonna get.

I've got the flat dark earth/black XD-45 and I love it. Most of my other guns have tan furniture so it just seemed right. Wife has the Bi-tone stainless/black .40 but she likes a little bling with her bang. Color in your engravings to give it a little extra something. You can find the how to over at XDTalk.com. I'd send the link but I'm at work and it's blocked.

I have never owned a Springfield but I have had S&W's, Glocks, & Colts. I have always said I am a Glock man but my recent purchase was a Sig 229 in 40cal. I went to buy a Glock 23 but was swayed toward the Sig. It was the bestmove I could have made IMO. It shoots great low recoil for fast follow ups and has 12rd mag. Don't get me wrong I am sure the XD is a good firearm but when I picked one up it just didn't feel right in my hand. I have a friend who loves his XD but he has never shot anything else except a 9mm Beretta. Right now I have a Glock 17 9mm, Colt 1911 45acp 70 series in nickle, and the Sig 229 in 40cal. I guess what I am saying is you get what you pay for. And for some reason the price of the XD with all the stuff that comes with it just seem like it's to good to be true. They are defently marketing toward the younger gun owning crowd.

When it comes to a firearm, the safer it is the better. with the springfield, as long as you are properly holding the gun, it will fire..and thats the only time that it should be fired

Well a real safety is your finger. If you put it on the trigger you've made your mind up to fire already. Don't commit to the trigger if you don't want to fire. That's how my uncle taught me.

Very true right there. But accidents do happen and the safeties on the springfield just seem to address that issue to a greater extent
