HID and halogen bulbs are very similar in the way they output light, so the projectors in his truck will work just fine for HID bulbs. They are obviously brighter. Can you upgrade and fit a "dedicated" projector housing into your lights? Sure. You can also buy new housing all together. Do you want to spend a grand on something that's really similar? No probably not.

They don't work that way for LED.

Unfortunately, that's where I ended up - I scrapped the whole system. When you spend over $200 for what is touted as a 'quality plug-and-play kit' for you Tacoma, I had the same expectations. I was extremely satisfied with the output, temperature, etc; one day I came out of the store to discover my passenger low beam was illuminated with the truck completely off. When I fired up the truck, the light continued to stay on, until I flipped on the headlights on then back off - at this point they both shut off like they were supposed to. For another couple weeks, everything worked as intended. Then, one day, coming out to leave for work, same issue - passenger side low beam illuminated with the truck completely off. This time, the flipping on and off of the lights had no impact; the low beam stayed on. So, I took them off for a few months before ultimately deciding to give them another try one day, and the damn things worked without issue for several months, until randomly, while warming up my truck, the passenger side ballast caught on fire and started to smoke profusely. I promptly shut off the truck and yanked the connector for the ballast, and proceeded to remove the system from the truck for the last and final time.

Needless to say, the halogen OEM bulbs are back in the truck, and functioning as they should. Of course they are nowhere near as bright, but also with none of the reliability concerns that plagued me with the Xenon Depot kit.

No one is taking about your BMW or F150, including you. I guess by "aftermarket lights" you meant to say, "Toyota OEM". Thanks for straightening me out on that.

I’m just waiting for the new ballast and I proved out it was the ballast. The other side is the same issue as what you had. Works sometimes and domes not. Irritating in a brand new w truck. When the new ballast is installed I’ll going to switch bulbs and see if it continues.
