You're statement, "FYI IFS have more ground clearance than a straight axle"

    Very general and vague

WTF do you expect with 31" tires? You expect to have 30" of ground clearance with stock tires?

I figured "bottoming out" was you getting hung in the front. Running 255/85/16 tires will help. They're a skinny 33" tire that isn't too heavy. But ultimately you'll have to pick your lines correctly so you don't bottom out.

I hope he realized that going straight axle is way more expensive and fuel inefficient than just using 33's lol

Ultimately, the only way to gain clearance under the axles / skid plates is tires (or portal axles, but that's not a real consideration for you).

You also need to take some time and better understand the terms you're using. Hitting the skid plate or diff on a rock, or ground, typically is not considered bottoming out. Bottoming out, usually refers to running out of suspension travel- Either compressing or extending the suspension to it's limit- usually compression. And usually only happens for a brief moment.

Hitting the diff or skid plate on the ground would be running out of ground clearance. High centering would be the term if you parked your diff on a rock that you couldn't get off of.

These trucks are extremely capable in their stock form. Learning how to drive around terrain features takes time.

What is happening here?? I thought SAS was the answer to all problems, suspension or otherwise! We should be trying to talk him up to 40s n tons, not out of it all together… Thought that was in the community guidelines?

I mean, that kind of talk might have been in the cards if OP had the budget/want to actually invest in the truck and do a proper SAS and not just hack it together with junk for a few hundred to make the truck even worse

It’s officially Friday so I reject that logic! I dropped a wrench on my toe this morning and am going to treat it with 40s n tons!
