XL Boosted Yaris build

Making a build thread to keep track of the progress I've done to my truck, and on the off chance I do anything interesting that could maybe help someone else hopefully I can share that information here.

The truck as it sits today.


Here's all the interesting bits:

Truck weighs 4,780 pounds with all my everyday gear in it and a full tank of gas.
Powertrain:
Magnuson Supercharger w/ 2.85 pulley
Tuned by @OVTune
AFE Cold air intake
JBA shortie headers
@Roostfactor Equal Length ypipe
Banks Monster 3" Catback
Ratiotek HD valve body upgrade (5 spd automatic)
CSF Racing All Aluminum FJ Cruiser/4Runner Radiator
2012 4Runner front brakes

Suspension/tires:
Total Chaos uniball upper control arms
King 2.5 RR Ext travel w/ 600 Lb springs (set to what ever King ships for ride height)
King 2.5 RR stock replacement rears
stock leaf springs
SCS Ray 10's 17" brushed copper
Falken Wildpeak AT3W LT 285/75r17 (aka 34x11.5)

Armor:
@At The Helm Front bumper
@Shmellmopwho Rock sliders
RCI IFS and Mid skid
All Pro offroad transfercase skid

Other:
Hypertech Speedometer Calibrator
Ultragauge MX 1.3

Planned Mods:

• Install hoodstruts sitting in my room
• Get some better bumpstops in the front
• Extended brake lines
• Been eyeing some clazzio seat covers
• Bigger battery
• Something to cleanup my current wiring mess

Beef up the rear:

• Archive Garage Hammer Hangers
• USA made custom leaf pack
• Tundra rear shocks for more travel, or 12" shocks. Can't decide yet
• Maybe some air bumps
• Rear bumper with swing out so I can have a spare tire again.

Here's a little of the trucks history:
I purchased it early January of 2017
First mod I did was getting my @Shmellmopwho sliders installed


Next was the supercharger install:

Installed some kings



Then me and my brother trucked it up 8 hours to pick up my At The Helm front bumper, and got to drive on some snow on the way home.


Then I visited @OVTune for some good ol dyno fun. Video included even though you can't really see much.


After all of this, it was time for some bigger tires. I really liked the look of some of the trucks on here that were rocking 34s, I was a little too scared to just do 35s but I figure when these tires wear out I will probably just do 35s.

I couldn't exactly drive the truck with the tires like this, they could not even drive it to the alignment rack, so another trip to Mr @Shmellmopwho since I didn't trust myself to cut my fenders and to get a CMC.

Pulled the trigger on a CSF performance aluminum radiator as discovered from this thread here:

It never gets old walking by the truck and seeing them in there

 

The blue catches the eye for sure. I get asked about mine in the most random places.

 

I’ve yet to have anyone ask about the kings but a few times while I’m pumping gas I have seen some fellow tacoma owners break their necks and come ask me about my ray 10s haha.

 

Installed a Donaldson Powercore air filter to my afe intake. Supposed to filter fine particulates better than other filters.

 

I wonder if you’ll have a noticeable impact on MPG.... seems air may not flow through as easily.

 

We will see. Donaldson claims the filter is good to go for 100,000 miles under any terrain. The supercharger will put it to the test, I plan on seeing if my boost #s change between this and the afe filter. Just have to install the gauge. If I take a little hit I will be ok with it, I’d rather not blow up my engine because the afe does not filter the fine particulates as good.

 

Mobile 1 Synthetic has been treating my truck very well.

 

Where's your dyno charts?

 

Gray lines are trd flash, green is ovtune.
TRD tune: 323 hp/ 318 lb tq
OVTune: 343 hp / 329 lb tq

 

Thanks. Was talking to a buddy about the whole ovtune thing and wanted to double check the "facts" I gave him. If he asks you made 355hp when done lol

 

And honestly I could care less about the power made above 4800rpm or so. That could be the same as before. It's the 20hp gain throughout the 3000rpm range that's important. Unless all you're doing is drag racing.

Anyways, nice truck man. I want to join the ovtune crew one day and get it running right

Thank you sir, the ovtune was totally worth it. Engine feels so smooth now. I am thinking I might go to a smaller pulley and bigger injectors and call it good haha. I’m afraid to push too much power through this motor since it’s stock internals. Going to focus on the cooling system first though. Got my new csf rad yesterday, going to get a new fan clutch and put heavier fluid in it. Also going to visit oem audio plus to upgrade my jbl system

 

Yeah I'm pretty happy with how the thing runs now, but always knew the tune wasn't perfect. OV will at least get it much better. If smaller pulley and injectors was worth another 50hp, I'd consider it, but it isn't. I'll have to be happy with the 2.8 since I'm too lazy to do all that. I've had the s/c on for about 110k miles and am not easy to the truck when I'm in the dirt. I figure when/ if the motor goes, I'll rebuild the s/c and throw it on the gf's 4Runner, then drop a 5.7 with the s/c from the tundra in. 500hp or so should be enough. #dreams
