Got the 3rd sent out yesterday to ECGS and called Az Driveshaft to see if they can check and rebuild the axle shafts.. as I'm pretty sure they are bent. I can see a good amount of run-out at the splined ends when they are bolted back up to the hubs and I rotate them. I'll get those pulled this weekend and over to Az Driveshaft. Should hopefully get everything back in a week or 2 and back together. Afterwards I'm going to make some changes to my rear bumper set up and where I'm storing the spare, spare parts and tools to try and get a better weight bias, and hopefully that'll help the longevity of the rear axle.

Especially since I finally found a 4runner to give the Taco a break from hard wheeling as well. Will be heading out to Cali next weekend to pick it up and drive it back. My uncle (4runner guy) and his old school 4runner Buddy checked it out and test drove it since it was around the corner from him. Worked out perfectly. Put a down on it once we agreed on a price and just have to drive out and pick it up.

    1986 4runner with factory 22R-TE.. yes.. the turbo. :D
Started life as a turbo, IFS, 4 speed automatic 4runner (since that's the only way you could get a turbo in the 4Runner, automatic) and then had the R151f 5 speed manual from the 86-87 turbo pickups swapped in. (They only made turbo options in 86 and 87). Since it's an 86, it was an IFS 4runner.. but it has been converted to a solid axle front with an earlier Toyota axle and trail gear kit + hy-steer. The front diff has a Spartan (Street) locker and the rear was swapped out for a 3rd Gen 4runner factory e-locker axle. So.. Turbo, 5 speed manual, solid axle, locked front and rear. How everyone would have ordered it if they could have any/all options available back then. The interior is very clean and complete. Factory turbo seats, turbo badging, digital turbo gauge cluster, inclinometer, radio, etc.

Crap pictures for now.. will get better ones when its in my possession.

hmmmm.. Part of me wants to just replace the entire housing. I'm going to try and verify if its bent or not today after work. At that point the entire rear end will be new. Depends on cost to have the axle shafts built at Az Driveshaft. If I can be in this full rebuild for like 2k.. I'm ok with that. If it starts to creep up into the 3k+ area.. then its really only a couple grand more for the D60...

Alright... Said fuck it and ordered a whole new axle housing. Couldn't pass up these savings ..

    Screenshot_20241201-101955.png

Also, just ordered new pre-assembled axle shafts for $880 shipped..

Plus the seals and new drum shoes for $66 shipped..

Puts me at $1875 for the entire rear axle rebuild.. including the fresh warrantied 3rd member through ECGS.

Definitely excited on the savings. Now I just need to rebuild the rear brakes and move them onto the new axle shafts and pull the old housing off the truck.
