Be sure to refill with ATF fluid. Some don’t take steering fluid and it spew it out

Found myself a 2002 GTI with vr6 and 6speed. Brokered a trade for a good used shotgun. Problem is it needs a good deal of work such as a shift fork is slipping so 1-3rd are lost and the interior is FUBARed. Nothing a little time and tinkering can’t fix.

blew this coolant hose last night. pic was pulled from the internet.. cannot find a part number anywhere. goes from intake manifold, runs over the oil filter, and into an alloy fitting up front. I believe its this.. but I cant find any other info when I cross reference part numbers. Need to be able to find this at Autozone or Napa.

Shows different for me. I think I know which one you're referencing tho. Maybe... Definitely looks different tho just compared to what I can see on the truck. Might try it tho next. Found a molded hose at autozone that might work.

Dumb there's no description or it's not under coolant hoses or cooling system. Nothing in my Haynes manual either.

It's a "cold mixture heater" valve. Generally they can be find under generic heater hose categories.

In this diagram.. it's this bottom left hose that feeds into the water pump. Has the 90 bend in it

I just ran across your thread. You made my day! This was my first new vehicle. The only difference was I had the bench seat and a bed shell. Lots of good memories as a single young man. By 2006, I had put 335k+ miles on it when my wife made me trade it in for a "reliable" (her words, not mine) first car for our daughter. I almost cried when I left it. But, family comes first.

Right on! I love hearing stuff like this. Glad it brought some nostalgia back. It's been an awesome little truck. Every once an awhile something pops up.. like now.

Got the truck back home after leaving it overnight at a friend's with the blown coolant hose. The random one I picked up from autozone worked.. but upon removal of the original hose, is when I found the problem. The fitting/nipple that the hose connects to on the intake side.. is completely deteriorated. It crumbled inside the hose.. and left just a fraction of a fitting left to slip the new hose over. Thought I was going to have to tow it home as there just wasn't enough for the hose clamp to bite onto. Finally ended up getting it seated and tight enough to drive it home. Added coolant and away we went. Now to source a new fitting.. and hopefully it doesn't fight me too much getting it out. But.. our plans of taking it to Cali today for our trip are off.. probably taking the Taco now. Bummer.. but at least it happened last night and not in the middle of the desert half way to Cali.

This pic online shows the Union the hose slips over (nipple pointing down with some corrosion). The one on the truck has about 1/4 or less remaining. Need to find that part number now.

    union.jpg

I believe its part # 16261B in this diagram.. but everything I pull up shows a 90 degree union.

so bailed on taking the mini to the meet in Cali for obvious reasons.. was definitely not the same without it. still had a good vacation and some much needed time away. was able to link up with my uncle from Huntington and had him bring out his built 4runner so I wouldnt be the only lifted modern truck there. caught up with some of the mini guys and and enjoyed the weather and trucks.
